Talking Just got a new 350z Nismo 2008, couple of questions..

Hello, I just got a new 350z Nismo 2008, and I am new to this forum. I have a few questions regarding this car.

-Is the Nismo edition 313HP instead of 306 HP (I saw in a couple of websites, it says that the Nismo edition have 313HP)?

-I saw that I have a stock Nismo Exhaust, is is it true that the Nismo exhaust is around 7-8 pounds ligher than the regular 2008 350z?

-The Nismo exhaust is louder than the regular 350z. (I know it's tuned, but) Does this mean it gives out a little more HP

-I am thinking of getting a Nismo catback exhaust to add more aggressive sound and HP, would you agree that this modification would add more sound and HP?

-I am also thinking of getting my new 350z Nismo lowered, has anyone got their Nismo lowered, and if so, would you recommend it?

-Someone told me I should get my alignment checked even though its new, because some of the Nismo editions needs to get checked, you think I need to?

-Is the 350z Nismo edition lighter than all the other editions?

Thank you!

Your NISMO has 306hp and is 3352#. Your car has added body welds and bolting in additional supports at the front and rear.

The Nismo is a track based car...it handles better around a track...Stock on stock they should be about even down the line. I know my buddy and mine were the exact same before I put in some air filters...then I was able to pull ahead every time.

Elan, you got an intake, or did you just replace your air filter (for example, a K&N filter), to get an increase in HP? My goal is to get a better aggressive sound for my car and better looking. My first projects are to get Nismo coilovers to lower my car about an inch lower (I choose Nismo parts so the value of the car would be higher, and the warranty of my new car), and get a Nismo Catback exhaust for the sound and speed (which would cost total of $2500 for coilovers and catback exhaust). Would any of you guys recommend these upgrades, or do you think the STOCK nismo exhaust would just be better off? Thank you!

First of all, welcome to the forum and grats on the Nismo!

Most of your questions are already answered on this forum, you should learn the search button like everyone did. However, taken that you are brand new on this forum, I'll give you a few heads up to your questions.

*For bored oldies*Please forgive me if my information is incorrect, I've just listed these from my researches done couple months ago by memory. Please feel free to correct any of these information as you see fit.

1. Nismo catback won't fit on the Nismo edition 350z. This was told by the Nismo department in Performance Nissan in SoCAL. I'm not sure how true this is, but you better make sure before you spend the money into investing in it...

2. Nismo ed 350z comes with "nismo" tuned coil covers... thus I really don't see why you need to spend more money on that.... If you acutally vaule your Nismo tag... I would remain more of the original parts than putting more Nismo after markets stuff on it. As if you would to ask anyone on this forum, they will probably tell you that Nismo branded parts are not always the best choice. Unless you're a big Nismo nerd and would rather use Nismo only stuff, you should really spend your money wisely and do more research. If you want to build an aggressive sounding machine, there are far more options out there that are cheaper than the Nismo brand.

3. Original exhaust came with the Nismo ed 350z is the exact same one as any other HR 350z. The only difference is that they put a bigger tip with Nismo engravings on the end of he exhaust to produce a more aggresive sound. That is all, thus no power gain nor any other benifits.

4. Last but not least, as a Nismo owner myself, I strongly suggest that you keep away from lowering your car. If you havn't noticed, the original Nismo ed 350z body kit is extremely expensive to replace. If you are a "not so careful" driver, you will find you self opening multiple cans of worm all at once. Unless you are extra careful "ALL THE TIME", lowering the nismo ed 350z is not an good idea for you. Make sure you consider that into your factors before you do anything that can turn against you in a very short period of time.

These are just my .02, feel free to search the site and learn more. I basically learned everything about Z on this forum. There are lots and lots of great informations on here, so help yourself and dig in

Have fun and enjoy your new Nismo!!

Hello Procustomize, I didn't know the Nismo edition came with the Nismo Coilovers. If that is so, can I adjust the coilovers by lowering it maybe around 0.8' inches? You seem to know a lot of the Nismo, also, its weird that the Nismo catback exhaust wouldn't fit the Nismo 350z, because aren't all the 350z the same? Thank you.

I never really pay any attention to lowering my car so I wouldn't know any more than you do. You should just give the dealer a call to find out more if our nismo ed 350z has adjustable coilovers. That is the most accurate way to do it.

As for the exhaust, dealer told me that nimso ed 350z has different underbody for better reinforcement on the car to boost handling. That is why the Nismo tune catback cannot fit on them as an direct bolt on. You can double check with your dealer, they might tell you other wise. This is where I'm not too sure, only passing on a message I heard from my dealer here.

If you want to spend money on an exhaust, I would suggest find someone with your ideal brand and listen to it personally. That is really the safest way to do it. Although it may be a nismo, you may not really like how it sounds when compared to HKS or Greddy. You never know, and don't trust cheap youtube sounds as many people can confirm that in real life, they sound much different.

I only know a little compared to some of the pros on this site. Just these pros are too lazy to type haha.

Have fun!

K&N Air Filters...they worked wonders for the cheap price. Nothing huge but enough to see an improvement compared to a stock.

My friend removed his OEM Nismo exhaust on his and put a TurboXS system on...they had a little bit of a hard time and had to put a piece of rubber to stop vibrations, but in the end it fit...muffler is a little crooked but hey it works. Sounds great. Nothing too noticeable!

hey procustomize and xstylinpnoy757x, the NISMO doesn't have coilovers, it just has stiffer springs than a stock 350z, so you cant adjust them.

The stock Nismo exhaust is basically a standard 350z exhaust from the Cats on back to the muffler.

The muffler is the only Nismo part on the exhaust system which is made by HKS for the car.

If you would like to see some pics of a lowered Nismo I have some in my album on my profile. The stock suspension does handle nicely but its not the best out there by any means. The stock wheel gap on the Nismo is quite UGLY IMHO! There is room for lots of improvements with the Nismo!

Spend sometime and do some reading first. Check out the VQ35HR section on the forum. As said previously.... All your answers can be found if you browse through out the forum and do some research. Then go ahead and ask some Q's!

I have alot of experience Modding my Nismo and can help you out. Congrats on the New purchase! Welcome to the forum!

as far as getting a deeper tone with the stock exhaust, and keeping that same "350" sound, can a local shop make custom pipes that run to the stock muffler? thats what im thinking of doing. is that possible?

For some odd reason the 2007 and 2008 350Z and Nismo 350Z is rated at 313hp in Japan. Something to do with how they rate the HP in the US and Japan.

1. WRONG. This will work.
1. Nismo catback won't fit on the Nismo edition 350z. This was told by the Nismo department in Performance Nissan in SoCAL. I'm not sure how true this is, but you better make sure before you spend the money into investing in it...

2. WRONG. They are tuned springs and struts. No coilovers. And much more like seam welds, extra body bracing, and so on. There is a difference that the aftermarket can not give you. 2. Nismo ed 350z comes with "nismo" tuned coil covers... thus I really don't see why you need to spend more money on that.... If you acutally vaule your Nismo tag... I would remain more of the original parts than putting more Nismo after markets stuff on it. If you want to build an aggressive sounding machine, there are far more options out there that are cheaper than the Nismo brand.

3. WRONG again. The Muffler is a HKS muffler that is on the NISMO 350Z, and is not the same as the HR. The rest of the exhaust is the same though.
3. Original exhaust came with the Nismo ed 350z is the exact same one as any other HR 350z. The only difference is that they put a bigger tip with Nismo engravings on the end of he exhaust to produce a more aggresive sound. That is all, thus no power gain nor any other benifits.

Yes correct about the HKS muffler...OP it sounds the same in the higher RPMs...a little deeper in low RPMs...really needs to be replaced.
