Default Rim dilemma

I went to get a new set of rear tires from Firestone. The manager told me it would be a two hour wait. As I waited and watched them, they finally got to my car. They began working on one rim for about thirty minutes when the manager approached me, and told me that he had scratched the rear rim of my car. As he took me over to it, I realized that it was definitely a scratch but not too bad. He promised, "I will have Tire and Wheel Connection fix it." I replied with no problem. As they took down my second rim to work on, the manager left for the day. After another forty five minutes of working on my second rim, I noticed that they had majorly screwed that one up also. An employee of Firestone told me that Tire and Wheel Connection could fix both of the wheels, no problem, exact match. Early this morning, I drove to Tire and Wheel Connection and spoke with the owner as well as a few other employees. They told me that it was very difficult to match the finish of the Nismo rims. So I called the Firestone manager, and I told him they have to replace my rims. When they discovered that each rim was $1,098.00, they told me that they needed to call the insurance department of Firestone. The manager also told me that it might take a few days to find out if they will fix them or replace them. IS THIS RIGHT? Has any one else had this occur?

wow, on top of taking forever and a half they f'ed up not one, but two of them. jesus.

stay on them and get them to make it right, if they can repair them cheaper, they will try by all means to get you to agree to repair them.

I had a similar situation happen to me at a Firestone as well. They messed up one of my rims so badly that they had to replace the rim. It cost them around $960 or so.....I was in there originally to get a tire repaired...the hole in the tire was patched but I was having to put air in it every few days or so.

I ended up having to replace the tire and with them having 27,000 miles on them, I thought I may as well replace all of them. When they put the tires on the front wheels, they scratched them up too but not as badly as the one they ruined. I ended up having to take it back and having a wheel repair guy fix them. I have to say he did an awesome job with matching the color of the rim.

They were super cool about the whole thing which surprised me. It made me sick to see my rim that messed up but it all worked out. Best of luck to you!

a tech at a shop i used to work for messed up a discontinued SSR wheel on a Supra, the customer freaked out and got a lawyer to file a claim for a new complete set of SSR wheels. the shop offered to fix the damaged wheel, but the customer insisted they buy him a new set because they are discontinued and can't be replaced. that claim is STILL being processed sadlly insurance companies tend to drag their feet when it comes to giving out money.

hopefully you have documentation of firestone being at fault, your persistence will pay off in the end so keep at it. good luck.

I had a similar situation where I wanted one wheel repaired because I curbed it. I was extremely clear to the shop that I did not want the entire wheel resurfaced, just the small area on the lip that was curbed.

They ended up resurfacing the ENTIRE wheel and it wasn't even close to a paint match to the other Nismo wheels, not to mention the shoddy job they did, i.e., dust particles trapped underneath the paint, orange peel, paint overspray, etc. Generally speaking, like aftermarket body paintwork, aftermarket wheel paintwork is not nearly as good as the factory stock paintwork.

I can GUARANTEE you that whatever they do to your two wheels that they will not match the undamaged ones. Try to get them to pay for two new wheels.

I would completely agree. Even if it looks the same color the day you get them, the finish may not be the same and not last as long. If anyway possible get them to pay for new rims, or at least used Nismo rims that aren't messed up. You can probably find someone selling their rims and the insurance may be willing to settle for that.

I curbed one coming out of a stall at a bank,i called curbside repair and they came out to my house(father and son),fixed the rim on the car, paint matched perfectly and they charged me 40 bucks and i gave them a 10 dollar tip.I have another rim (front) here with a curb brush(not even as bad as the other one i'll sell for 300 if anyone is interested. It could be fixed for the same forty bucks.I don't have the car anymore so i don't need it.

Default Go Back to the Dealer!!!!! They understand the rarity of the NISMO!!!!

I agree, be careful where you take the NISMO Z. The few times I've taken mine in for minor stuff, the dealer personnel always adjust their tone and actions a bit when dealing with my car. They understand they are dealing with something special.

I thought everyone had a tire guy that they trusted with their
wheels??? The people that work in those tire places couldn't care
less about what they're changing tires on.

and... going back to the dealer is an equally poor and misguided
suggestion.
