I HAVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN!

thats why you were able to drive and didn't loose all your oil all at once and your gauge was slow at noticing..........more than likely thats what happened....

its worth your time to do so........if you find the issue, before they do, take pictures and arm yourself with data!....

if you dont have time or a jack to jack the car up and look, slip the tow truck company driver 20 bucks and ask him to do it, they usually carry a jack with them....

if not, dont let your car out of your site at the dealership.......take pics!

the dealership isnt gonna be so "WILLING" to get you a new engine...pfffff!

This happened to me a few years back on my new Mazda protege 5. First oil change and the Mazda tech left the old oil filter seal on the engine. It resulted in a new engine, (which the dealership did not want to do) because my wife drove the car about 100 miles with an oil leak.

Op I hope your engine is not damaged because of this.

No worries man. I admit the noise from the engine was a bit unnerving but no harm was done. Not to mention the Audi has 270K miles on her running strong.

The engine felt good and pulled strong when I put it through the paces. I am very happy the way everything worked out. Plus the free detail is huge. My car looks great.

They said they used an orbital buffer and some kind of "Black Magic" something or other which eliminates swirl marks.

I explained the situation to my uncle who is an engineer and moderately car savy. He said that the clicking sound was probably the rod going up and down without oil, but for the amount of time it was happening it should not be a problem. Plus I still had some oil in the engine so it was partially lubricated.

I don't think its justifiable to press for a new motor when there isn't anything that seems to be noticeably wrong with the engine right now. I've beat on it pretty good the past 2 days and haven't experienced any problems or weird noises.

Keep a close eye on your oil levels for awhile.

Clicks are typically valve train noise.

I agree with that... if they can't handle an oil change good luck getting a new engine put in... I wouldn't let that place ever touch my car again... At least since your driveway is already oil stained your mom won't mind you changing your own oil now

Send out an oil sample and have it tested when you do the next oil change yourself!!! The heat from in town stop and go traffic and allowing the engine to basically pump itself dry isn't good man.

I had a work truck that had an oil pan get punctured and by the time the oil light came on and the truck was pulled off the road the damage was done. The company had to replace the engine. The knock was loud! Bearings shot. It only had 6 kmi on it to.

I would also do a compression test if I were you. I'm **** I wouldn't beable to sleep at night. I'm not very trusting of mechanics and prefer to do my own work whenever possible.

Time to do your own oil changes.

Just a guess..but not sure the engine was "run dry".. as long as the engine was running ..what ever little oil that made it in to the engine stayed there, to an extent. It's when he got home and turned off the engine the oil that was kept in there by the oil pump ..pissed out on to the garage floor.

Still a very good idea to send an oil sample as well as keep an eye and ear on things.

Take extra good care of her.. you dodged a bullet I think :-)..

Did they put Mobil 1 back in or what they use in the shop. Jason hit it on the head with the oil filter seal left on car. Thats what happens when you have a $9.00 an hr. guy working on your car. Learn to do it yourself, if it's important to you you'll learn how! Better luck in the future!

No they called me up and asked if they could use Nissan's oil and filter.

I said sure. The only reason I bring my own stuff is because they charge you a premium on their stuff.

Bringing my own stuff = $50 oil change (oil+filter 30 and 20 labor)

Using all of their stuff = $80 ($10/quart X 5 , 20 labor, 10 filter)

I was really nervous about them washing my car. I was actually shocked when I saw it because it looked good. They used "liquid ebony" I think, which fills in swirls.

The service manager also said they went over the car with an orbital buffer. I almost crapped myself when I heard this because I'm almost positive they didn't clay the car, and god forbid they didn't get all the dirt off with their wash.

It rained hard on Saturday and some of that liquid ebony stuff is starting to fade, and I can see light swirl marks beneith it.

I'm going to keep bringing my car to them for sevice. If for nothing else I know for sure they stand behind their work. Everyone makes mistakes. It could have just as easily been me forgetting to get the seal was still in there.

My car still reaks of oil every time I get in it though. They said they "steamed" the car, but said it will smell for quite a while unfortunately.

My oil pressure now ranges from just below the first bar at idle(looking at the guage from left to right) to 120 or whatever the max pressure is when I am giving it a lot of gas.

I'm happy everything worked out but I am still hesitant every time I drive it. I'm constantly checking for oil leaks every time I pull out of a parking spot
