Tire Problem/Advice for my Nismo
Hey Everyone,
New to the forum, hope it's okay my first post will be a question! Car in question is my daily driver, 2008 Pikes Peak Pearl White Nismo Edition 350Z. I could go on and on about the car and how fun it is, but I'll stay on topic. I am running the suggested Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires on the stock Nismo/Rays Wheels. I replaced the rear tires 5 months ago, and after 7,000 or so miles, am on cords. The outer 1/4 of both rear tires still has around 4/32 of tread, while the inner quarter of the tires are gone, on cords. I have had the car since December of '10, so please excuse my ignorance in my next few questions, hope none of them are stupid questions:
1 - How many miles do you usually get out of the tires/what driving style?
2 - Could the previous alignment have been out of spec, and caused them to wear so unevenly? (my main guess)
3 - Is this a common issue with these cars, if not, what are possible contributing factors?
4 - I like these tires, but, is there possibly a better/longer lasting tire out there, or would they all be harder compounds which would result in a decrease in handling...or are these the tires to go with? 7,000 miles just seems too soon, it's not like I am doing burnouts or insane drifts with the car. Just want to have everything squared away to try and prevent this with the new tires that will be going on as soon as I figure out whats up.
Thank You,
WhiteNismo350Z

Either your allignment (Toe) is out of spec or you do burnouts at every stoplight.
There is no way that those tires should run down that far in 7k miles.
*clifs: get an alignment

I am enjoying the hell out of it, I do not believe the car receives the credit it deserves...on twisty roads, friend with Gallardo and another with an Exige S cannot pull. For its price and what it is, the aesthetics/sound/performance/handling are great...it's a proper sports car, manual/rwd bliss. And KingBaby, thank you for the response, that has been my main guess.
Any other info?

Congrats on the car, but as someone said already, get an alignment ASAP. I still have tons of tread left at 5300 miles.

You can still notice the little nubs on the tires....lol

Strange for a 08...03(mine)&04's had terrible front alignment problems.
Thought that was fixed.
I'd get to a GOOD Nissan shop to get this aligned right.
Took me 4 sets(under warranty) to get mine finally aligned right.
Regular driving, those tires should last 15-20k miles.
Just my opinion,I'd dump those Bridgestones.Get some Hankook EVO V12'S...

Thank You Kcee91, I will for sure be getting an alignment once the new tires are on. Hope this was the issue and there is not another problem causing the uneven wear.
Thank You JCITY, Nissan dealer would be more trustworthy you think than a good alignment shop, since they know the cars? I will check out the V12s, but, along with the Potenzas, I am also considering the Michelin Pilot Super Sport...the reviews I have been reading have all been positive, great handling dry/wet, quiet, and good tread life? Anyone had experience with the two? (RE050A vs. Super Sport).
Thank You again everyone for the help, wasn't sure who to ask and am glad I joined this forum!

My Nismo was getting cord showing on the inner edge of the rears by 11-12K miles. Combination of very aggressive camber settings from the factory (2+ degrees in the rear), 'spirited' driving, and shitty tires. I went to Nitto Invo's on the back and got a better tire that was 100% quieter, and lasted me almost 20K with the same aggressive driving habits. I'm now using some hankook ventus V12's that are great as well, even cheaper, not quite as quiet but solid all around for the price (not too great in the rain, but still better than the 050's.)
If you get an alignment, ask them to dial the camber all the way down in the rear. Minimum I could get with stock parts was 1.6-1.7 degrees, which is still a lot on a street car and still wears the tires on the inner edge, but that's what lets the car use the tires when cornering, so i'm not gonna go much less even when I get adjustable camber arms for the rear.
The guys that get 30K out of stock tires, are not enjoying the car on a regular basis, plain and simple.

I have 2008 nismo edition in Black color.
My front tires lasted me 47000 miles while my rear ones lasted me only 13500 miles.
and changed out my rears at 13500 with Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport 275/35-19 since they didn't have the stock size tires. and that lasted me over 30000 miles.
Wierd thing is my tires wears out from outside although I have a negative camber and my toes in spec. if I didn't have that outer tire wearing first that RE760 tires would have lasted me up to 45000 miles for sure.
