Default Nozzle distance to TB

Alright, I know that, optimally, the nozzle should be about 2 or so inches from the TB. However, in an effort to keep my setup 100% stealth, I have a thought, but I'd like to see what you guys think.

I'm thinking of removing my Z-tube and putting the stock intake back on my G coupe. I'll keep the K&N drop-in filter, of course . What I'd like to do though, is modify the resonating chamber that protrudes off the bottom of the stock intake pipe to house the nozzle and lines going into it. There is plenty of room inside that chamber to do this. I would also find a way to plug the hold between the chamber and intake tube (probably epoxy) then redrill the plug to hold the nozzle.

The problem is that the hole to the chamber is about 12" away from the TB opening. I know I wouldn't get as hard of a hit when spraying, which may actually be a good thing because there wouldn't be as much driveline shock (just doing some free thinking here, correct me if I'm wrong). My concern is whether or not the n2o/fuel mixture could puddle in the intake tube before reaching the tb/plenum. Also, there the turn towards the TB in the intake tube where the nozzle would usually be mounted; therefore, not only would the n20 have a longer distance to travel, it would have to get around that bend as well.

Not having watched n20 spray, I really don't know how well it mists coming from the nozzle (NX Shark, BTW). Any thoughts or opinions on this one guys?

On a side note, the jets that came with the nozzle are 52/26. Is that enough fuel for a 100 shot? I can't seem to find an NX jet calc, but the other brands show I should have a 28 fuel jet.

I would think it would puddle being that far back. the further away the nitrous/fuel moves away from the nozzle, the worse the atomization gets..you want it close so by the time it hits the combustion chamber, atomization is still decent.

My NS(Nitrous Supply) kit said to put it between 6-12" in front of TB if "possible." Mine is about 12" from the TB and it seems fine, although I do feel "nitrous lag" a bit after WOT. I plan on maybe trying a different location in the future, but it is within my kits specs.

Wow, am I the first to experience "nitrous lag"?

You're going to make the nozzle stealth, exactly why? How're you going to make the bottle and other components disappear?

well, i put my nozzle back about 12 inches from the TB, it worked just fine, it wont puddle unless there is a place for it to puddle, like a lower part of an intake manifold.

i wouldnt worry about it, it worked well on my car

I had mine 6" from the TB...I think the main concern with placing the nozzle far from the TB is that is you stop spraying at the same time you lift off the throttle, you could trap some of the nitrous/fuel in the intake tubing. (I had the dynotune tps/window unit, so when I let off the throttle, the nitous would stop spraying at the same time - you wouldn't want nitrous/fuel sitting in you intake tube...but then again, 12" doesn't sound too far away)

*After I finished my install, ppl never knew I had nitrous (even with them looking around the engine bay and the interior of the car) until I told them and pointed out the components. (electrical wiring loom works perfect to hiding the steel braided lines)

Because I'm going to take some of the Mustang and Firebird driving rednecks* around here for a ride. Even though, from what I've seen so far, they have no fkin idea what they're looking at under the hood of my car, I certainly don't want them seeing a nozzle.

Seriously, you should see some of the looks on people's faces when I open my hood. I've already been accused of having a S/C once. And I laugh every time people ask me why I have two batteries (JDM right side "battery cover" over the brake booster). Seriously, I am the ONLY modded G Coupe within 70 miles, and I'm in a town of 50k people.

The scene around here really sucks. It makes taking idiots' money easier, though.

* Please note that not ALL people who drive Mustangs or Firebirds are rednecks; just those that I'm referring to.

I just got off the phone with Kurt at NX. He said I should go with 52/28-29 jets for a 100 shot.

Audible & fan, thank you for reassuring me on the distance. I didn't think it would be an issue, but I appreciate the experienced guidance.

Looks like I'll be getting after my stock intake with the Dremel in the next couple of days. Man I can't wait to get this system installed.

dTor, your kit should come with a threaded fitting that you install on to the plastic intake tube that your nozzle screws into. If yours doesn't, locate one at a local speed shop, it really makes for a secure and easy install. All you do is drill a hole, slide this fitting from the inside of the tube , tighten down with a bolt from the outside then install the nozzle. I'll post some pics of the fitting after work.

Thanks man, I know exactly what you're talking about. I was referring to using the Dremel to separate the resonator from stock G35 intake "tube" so I can hide the nozzle inside of it. I'll have to use epoxy or plastic filler to fill in the hole to the resonator, then drill the filled in portion for the nozzle. I hope I can use that fitting in there.

Do a search...alot of us have hidden everything, including the bottle.

dTor...make sure the nozzle stays where you mount it. I was having trouble with it slipping around from the torque when you spray. If its not secure enough, a zip tie will work pretty good in conjunction with the method one350zfan was talking about. I have a K&N intake and it kept moving around so I had it welding into place. No more movement...unless of course the welds break.
