1. Bad as in zex plugs aren't recommended but the NGK 3672's are which are for boats if I recall. They are one degree colder.

2. I can't answer since I am not done with my install.

3. According to people I have talked to on here and FreshAlloy.com NO.

Edretti,
Hey bro, are you going through the install as we speak? If so, do you think you can do a detailed write up with pics. I think tons of people would benefit from it, (including me). I haven't got the kit but I plan to in the very near future.

2. Does anyone worry about hitting fuel cutoff while squeezin?

3. Did you guys do anything to upgrade the fuel system? or is our system sufficient.
1. NGK's good, Zex plugs TOO SHORT! Zex is really starting to suprise me at the **** they pull off to make a sale. Sure use these plugs, they won't hurt anything (except your engine's performance). FAH-Q ZEX!!!

2. Yes, I was worried about that and spraying at too low an rpm. I got MSD to modify one of their rpm window switches and it's working great. It just needs to be modified for one-cylinder operation. Then you must buy the rpm pills to select the rpm window. Switch ~$80, rpm pils ~$25 x 2 = $50, MSD modification approx $20.

3. Stock fuel system should be fine up to a 100+ shot, as long as it's a wet kit.

ZEX kit is down again!!! Ok, Summit Racing finally agreed to send me a new unit after I had the credit card company take back their money (and after ZEX refused to come to an acceptable solution). So I installed the new control box and it worked flawlessly... for a few days. After I dyno'd the car and drove home (bottle off), I noticed the solenoids were opening and closing at will. I barely got it home because it was spraying fuel and flooding the engine. Now here's the odd thing, I had the switch to the unit OFF!! The ONLY way it could have been firing the solenoids would be through the TPS voltage signal and ground wires, the red wire was open. This second ZEX unit does not have the same problems as the first, but it has a potentially disasterous new problem. After re-wiring it to a different configuration, I found it was spraying as soon as I turned the switch on when I was at crusing throttle (not very good for the engine). So to ZEX, for almost destroying my engine, I repeat FAH-Q!!!!!! I've had it, I'm returning the damn thing. I'm really suprised I haven't heard of more problems from others with their tps trigger functionality.

Yes, I'm sure I've hooked everything up correctly.

What was the issue with your car having differnt wring colors than the ones here running the kit succesfully.

It's absolutely wiring ( I am sure you realize this and are frustrated) but I don't remember why you didn't have a solid white wire.

I agree, disconnect it but I'm still interested as to why yours doesn't work and whether it is Nissan related and not ZEX?

Mind boggling what you have been through.

I guess it pays to have it installed by one of their authorized dealers to avoid all the BS you have been through.

At least you bought it from Summit. Their return policy is the best, bar none!

Yes, I promise to give a detailed write up of the install with pics when I complete it this week. I severely pulled my back out this Saturday WASHING MY CAR! Go figure! I can't get around too well so as soon as I'm a little better I am going to install the kit. It's driving me crazy looking at this stuff sit in my living room at me staring at it all day. At least it's not in the car because if it was I think I would suck down some mega pain killers and GO DRIVE!!!!

Sorry to hear that. Pain sucks.

Take care of yourself first, the car isn't going anywhere!

Hey Guy's
Is anyone running another kit besides zex??? McDan I konw what your going through. I had a zex kit on my civic, and had huge problems with my box. I sent it back to them like 4 times. I got so fustrated with that damn kit. It loved it when it worked, but I'm leary of buying another one.

Zex is new to the wet kit market, and I'm wondering how safe and efficent it is.

I'm considering the zex, or NX kit for my z. I know NX does wet kits and thats all they have ever done.

any info will be well apreciated.

Also, the rpm window switch is a must. McDan can yo uexplain how and why you had to modify it to get it to work?

Thanks
Brendan

MSD only sells one part number for the RPM Window Switch. It comes reconfigurable (by cutting a wire) for either 8, 6, or 4 cylinder operations. However, most newer cars have a single coil per cylinder. MSD has to modify their switch for all cars with coil-on-plug ignitions. You will have to buy a switch somewhere and ship it to MSD and tell them to modify it for single cylinder operation. Call MSD and ask for Joe Lapille. I worked with them to show them their switch would work on a 350Z, after they twice told me it wouldn't. They should now know it does now, per me. I had to find oscilloscope graphs in the manual and everything to make them understand it would work.

The MSD takes it's tach input off ANY of the 6 coil packs. Each coil pack has a striped wire and two solid colored wired. The striped wires are the signal from the ECU and are what you want to use.

Also, the 350Z is not wasted-spark ignition (the plugs only fire on the combustion strokes), in case they would happen to ask, but they should know that now.

Dan

Bottle Fed Racing has them but locally I use Tea Garden Motor Sports.

52N20 26 Fuel seems to be best. I'm running a 28 fuel, ZEX calls for a 27 but Tea Garden didn't have that one so I went fat because my plugs are only one heat range colder now not too. Better safe than too lean.

Racing Saturday, new Intake Plenum from Crawford will be here tomorow!

McDan:
Thanks for the info you jsut told me a lot. I'm used to wrenching on honda's so I'm still learning alot about the z. needless to say the hondas ignitions are simple in comparison to the z's. If there anywhere I can find more info on the z's igniton set up?

Also McDan since you sent the zex kit back, do you think you will run an NX or other type of kit? I've heard nothing but good things about NX. I liked my zex, but like you had to many issues with the damn box. So I'm still on the fence.

Is everyone running zex?? Or is there any other kits out there??
Thanks
Brendan

Default Plug difference

Can someone tell me the difference between an IK20 and an IKH20 iridium plug? And which one is actually correct?

Thanks.
