Default For those using NOS on a Z is it safe?

This goes out to our fellow NOS users on a 350Z, has it proved to be safe over the time you have had your kit. The reason I ask is I think I will hold off on the supercharger or turbo for now and go with nitrous something small like a 50 shot no more. But I do not want to hurt the motor.

NOS as in the company or do you mean nitrous? I am also wondering this as well. How would a 50 shot fare on the engine?

Smile Nitrous

I'm sure he probably meant Nitrous ! A 50 shot is safe, but the problem is once you start a person usually goes up!

How about a 50 shot about 3-4 times a week?

Default Shot Size

I used a Zex 100-125 shot from late February to June & then up'ed to a 144 rwhp shot from July to October! I then screwed something up (I still don't know what exactly) and did an engine rebuild oct-nov!! I sprayed again Sunday (on a dyno) 10 settings less than I had before on the n20 pill, (left the fuel the same) and the same screw up again but a lot less damage. Removing the heads today and suspect exhaust valves on cylinder #6 & #1 are shot! Something needless to say has gone haywire and at this time don't have a clue! ECU?,Fuel?,Injectors?,Fuel Pump?: When I did use N20 between Feb & Oct I averaged about 3 10lb bottles a week!

Mdjens...If your blowing valves then it sounds like a weak link...Not a lean condition..Sounds like too much juice to me..

Yes, I agree that the valves are probably the weakest link and I will get some "good ones" custom made this time "but" how do I explain so many good runs (144 rwhp) and then everything goes to hell at once, then rebuild and try a (guess) 110 shot and the same results. After I upgrade the valves I'll still have a sneaky suspicion that I still have some other more technical problem that seems now to be unsolvable. Mike

ok well i have a 125 nx kit wet and i spray about 1 or 2 times a week and i have had no problems with it. Though i have a safc 2 and we tricked the maf sensor. This was all installed and tuned on a dyno. I have had this set up for about 3 months. I must agree though that i started out with a thirty five shot and now im up to 125. Its fun but im not spraying anymore as i await my s/c

sounds like a bad idea to me seems like everyone who has had nitrous on any car for a long period off time has had some sort of problem. Cant take the risk. I think its best I hold off on nitrous or any big power gainers. No nitrous, no turbo, no supercharger because of the problems I have herd about and knowing my luck will happen to me also I think its almost time for me to trade the 350Ztrack in for something stronger. I do like the new vette coming out next year

I am starting to replan my motor path as I am seeing a lot of blown motors with not that outrageous of power adders. I am thinking that building the top end (cams, port heads, etc.) of the motor will be enough to have fun while leaving the bottom end and FI/NO2 alone. Past that gets a little spendy for the risk, to me. You gotta pay to play!

im seriously rethinkin my plans too......i was leaning towards supercharger.....then when tt came out i was thinking yeah but i think the cost plus install is gonna be alot more than i originally thought....and now the probs with the procharger.....might be better off just building the engine

I here ya there bro. Im actually happy with the power I have now I just want the damn car to pull harder from 4K all the way to redline insted of the power tapering off. Once you get to 6K power starts to get boring really fast. I love my Z but Im starting to miss my S2000 due to high revs.

i started at a 35 shot in september (thats all i need anyway right?...nope), and ended up using a 100 shot by the end of october. 50 shot isnt going to be enough.

mjedens...please tell me it didnt happen again. now you're getting me worried. i have my 150 and 200 shot jets on order, but now im having 2nd thoughts.

i probably dont use nitrous as much as most people. just 3-4 months out of the year. 1 bottle every 2-3 weeks unless its a track day. i still think n2o is a lot more safe then any other FI mods you can do. main reason is its not always on and wearing out your engine like with other FI mods out there.
a 35-50shot is cake for the Z's engine, and you'll probably want more anyway.

by the way mjedens what r u looking at cost wise for valves? and find out whats going wrong, i need to know...
have you looked into the plugs to c weather or not they're causing it?

I'm thinking about going with a 75 shot myself. While I know I may outgrow it quickly and desire more. I have my engines safety in mind. And while it's never as safe as stock...there's a safer approach I guess.
