Man, I haven't had a beer in probably 2 weeks. Need to stock up again and soon. It's that time of the year when I'll be taking vacation, so I need to keep my fridge full of choices.

Erik, can you get me used hockey equipment for my boys career? LOL

I'd be down for some Hooters. I'd also be down for a meet at King of Diamonds.

Two hockey trips today. One in the next hour, one late tonight vs Eastview (in Apple Valley). I am volunteering again, probably the penalty box this time.

So being that Zune is going out of business I decided to buy the wife a new Ipod. Holy hell when did they get so sophisticated??? I still have my old Ipod that I have from when they first came out (the 20gb one that played music only and not music videos). So part of her Christmas present I bought her a new Ipod touch 32gb. The damn thing is like an Iphone minus the fact that you can't call people or no monthly service for it. It can connect to the wifi and do everything the Iphone can pretty much.

On a side note X-mas shopping is finally done thank god. Had to battle the MOA today to pick something up for the niece.

OMFG! When it rains, it pours! My dishwasher is crapping out on me, and today I find out my hot water heater is leaking. This after I thought it was my water softener only to find out something caused some wires to loosen and disconnect the display. So yeah, I guess my Xmas is fugged.

Time for the kids to start doing chores. I had to wash dishes by hand from the age of 11-17 before I finally bought a dishwasher for my folks

Can't wash dishes if you don't have hot water....plus I have a feeling more dishes would be broken or not washed very well.

So basically, I need to buy a new water heater and have it installed. I thought I could fix the leak thinking it was the drain valve. I think the inside of the heater is rusted too much. There goes at least $500 for a new heater and parts, not including labor.

Oh, and I don't even know how much a new or slightly used dishwasher goes for. Guess I better start shopping.

boil some water on the stove. Fill the sing half way with cold water than boil a pot of water to put it in. That's what I had to do back in the day when me and the family were up at the cabin during the winter everything would be shut down.

I think I've installed a hot water heater once before when I lived in South Mpls. I had help, of course. What a ***** that was. Can't imagine doing it alone in this house.

Erik, that's about what I expected to pay for install labor. Thanks for the info.

As for dishes, I think I'll try that tonight and see how it goes. I think Tara is more skeptical about the boys washing dishes than I am.

So....how hard can it be to switch from gas to electric? What are the pros and cons? I have a gas water heater.

Sounds like a pain in the ****...

To switch from a gas water heater to an electric water heater:

The old gas valve should be shut-off and the gas pipe securely capped.

Install a pan and make sure it & overflows are routed to drains.

You need an electric branch circuit run to the water heater location.
Most local building codes require a disconnect switch or circuit breaker within reach or sight of any appliance.
Depending on where it is located, some local building codes may require that it be on a Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupter or Arc-Fault Circuit Breaker.

If the old and new heaters are the same height,
then not much will be required in terms of plumbing;
but if they are different heights,
then the cold and hot water piping will need to be replumbed.

To make your water heater last longer,
there should be dielectric (insulated) couplings
between both the cold & hot water pipes and the tank.
This helps reduce corrosion inside the hot water tank.
If the cold & hot water pipes are metal,
there should be an electrical bonding wire between them
to make sure they are both electrically grounded.

You probably will be able to save some money
by having your electric water heater on a timer
to turn if off when typically not in use and turn it on when needed
(for instance off overnight, or off if noone is at home).
Keep in mind there is a trade-off between turning it off
and the energy required to warm it back up again.
A water heater insulation blanket can help save more energy.

Gas will cost more, but save longer term..just did this ish with my dryers and conversions...220 would be required...so we could at least run a decent MIG welder off it if its close...but moving my 220 across kitchen on sep fuse ran me a nice $560 for my custom kitchen..lol
