Hello My fellow 350 Zers,
Well the story goes like this,my wife just got back from visiting family in indiana and she cant stop raving about the area and how she thinks its a great place to move to raise children, when we have them. I think the area was called "carmel"but her family was shocked when she told them how much we are paying for or apartment $1150 and they said that thats almost 2 morgage payments there.
Anywho I was curious for people who live there and surrounding areas how do you like it?dont seem like theres to many Zs from that area by looking at your section, nothing like norcal but also what about smog laws??please tell me you dont have them so i can run headers and test pipes on my Z
.
also what about crime rate?any info would be great thanks guys

i can't imagine they have smog laws... i live in michigan, and we sure don't have them. IN is really close. test pipes still aren't legal, headers are though... but lots of us still run test pipes......
more would run headers (me included) if they weren't such a pain to install.

yeah, no smog limits, and you'll be able to find something nice for 200,000 definitely with what youre looking for. The cost of living is definitely a good amount lower than it is in Cali.
I grew up in Indiana, its definitely a nice place to raise a family.

i'm from terre haute and quite a few friends live in indy. My sister lives in west lafeyette (purdue university).
Indiana is just a nice place to live, nothing too great but nothing too bad. Carmel is a very nice town on the northside of indy. it's near dreyer and reinbold BMW and Infiniti and there is a Nissan dealership across the street. My best friend is a BMW tech.
Most people live outside of the city a little bit and commute. Saves a lot of money for us middle class incomes. You can find some very reasonable houses for purchase right now too. My friend that is a BMW tech lives in Brownsburg. It's a new and upcming town attached to indy. Still reasonable on housing and it's only about 10-15 minutes (traffic depending) from the city. I like that area and if i could transfer my job over there i would be all for it.

As was mentioned previously, the cost of living is quite different compared to Cali so keep that in mind.
You can start checking out houses here: http://mibor.com
Carmel = Hamilton County/Clay Township
Also, take a look at Zionsville (Boone/Eagle) and Fishers (Hamilton/Clay) - both are nice areas and similar to Carmel. If you're going to move from Cali then I'd keep all of these options in consideration.
Crime is very minimal in all 3 areas. I'm sure some website has the stats listed somewhere.
Personally I lived in Carmel for a few years (rented a house w/ some friends) and loved it. We were within walking distance from Clay Terrace (a shopping center) and The Monon Trail (a paved walking/jogging/biking trail).
Let me know if you have any other questions about the area and I'll do my best to help out.

well my wife is sold on indy but she said she would consider surrounding areas,Im sure crime is way lower than where Im at, here its a bunch of gang crap, and a bunch of idiots that dont know how to drive. just curious whats min wage there?
ya, almost anyone I know lives out the outsides of the city where it's nicer and cheaper.
If you have a lot of money and want to live in the city then look for houses on North Meridian street. There are some sweet *** houses there.

min wage will be like $7 something later this year i believe, thought min wage was a federal thing not state
i think minimum wage is going to be 7.25 very soon
I live in indy, and it is awesome....carmel is really nice, but on the south side there are a lot of nice places as well....Center Grove/greenwood has some very nice places
both carmel and center grove schools are pretty good public schools....and the only place in indiana that smogs is Lake county, which is up on the border of Lake michigan and illinois

i currently live in brownsburg and graduated from brownsburg schools brownsburg is a great place to raise a family and you are about 20 min at the most from dwntwn, carmel is also a great location as well but is known for being an upscale real ritzy part of indianapolis. There are also no smog laws that i know o and there is oreilly raceway park that has street legal drags along with other road courses that are extremely fun i know that there are only a couple of z's in the town but it def is a fun town and you are only min away from dang near anything you wanna do. I would def consider brownsburg
