Well you guys are right, it definitely won't hurt But as you know me, I don't want to do anything to the car unless I absolutely NEED it. That's what Howard was telling me. You don't actually need it but if you insist you can put on it and it won't hurt.

As soon as Lee mentioned about it and I saw one of the Nismo guys thread about oil cooler posts I decided that I NEED it. And then I went ahead and researched a bit more and I decided to first put an oil temp, check the levels and go for it if I am hitting highers temps. So, I am not against it and will know more when I have an oil temp in mine.

^ Deepu that's a very good way to think of things, especially when it comes to performance parts.

But for safety parts, or parts that will help the longevity of your car, I think of it differently. For example, even if your oil temps aren't over the limit but are up there all the time, I can't imagine it being good for your engine. Wouldn't you rather have it running at low temps all the time regardless?

As for me, I won't be able to pick one up until I can afford it. But since you're running track days like every other week without an oil cooler, I hope you're changing your oil pretty often.

Here is my .02 on the oil cooler. I run my car really hard at the track - and I have not experienced any oil degradation. I do change my oil religiously every 3k miles or after 2 track days (regardless of mileage). I know there is an issue on the 370Zs w/r/t oil temp, but remember we are not running VIR, Watkins Glenn and Laguna Seca here in Michigan.

Hmm, that's an interesting point.

I have changed my oil 3 times so far after taking car out from hibernation in Apr and I have done 3 track days. I put some 4K miles on mine so far this season. So that should cover it.

Deepu,

I was the one that suggested you all get them conisdering the track days you have them
Look at cop cars, one of the reasons they run forever IS the oil cooler.

You don't NEED it but I look at is a small investment to help prevent damage and make your motor last longer. Even under normal driving situations, sitting in traffic etc HEAT is the worst enemy of cars in general. Anything you can do to help keep your ALUMINUM motor cooler is going to be huge in the long run.

Look at headers as well, I always get ceramic coating on them to keep the heat out of the engine bay..again to get heat away from the engine

For the small cost and little headache to install it...I am surprised all of you don't have them at this point

My .02 as well...

P.S. my Camaro has one and I have never or never will road race that thing...I just LOVE my motor that much..hahha

I am just worried about the winter. I like to drive the car as long as there isn't snow on the road. At that point I'll probably have to put a cover on the cooler to get up to 180F.

Thanks for sending out the email Rob. I'm on another business trip right now. I flew into Atlanta, drove to Columbia, SC and this afternoon started cutting over to Chattanooga to see another customer.

I just happened to rent the new Camaro (unfortunately it's a V6). Even worse, it's in Bumblebee Yellow.

I'm now staying at Fontana Village Resort for the night. I guess I'll have to try it out on the Dragon tomorrow morning. LMAO! This thing rolls like a Lincoln Towncar. Hopefully I don't kill myself. Too bad I don't have the GoPro with me. I had no idea I'd get the Camaro and I didn't plan this route to Chattanooga.

Rob, I'll send you a copy of the presentation. Can you post up the doc?

Come on Brian, it will be fun....

306 hp ain't shabby...
It should move ok, just put it on the second "traction control" setting.
In GM's its actually really good it will let you get a little a$$ out and push the car a good amount. Once you go overboard or start losing it, it will kick in....

OK, I was a little hard on the Camaro initially. I stand corrected. Thanks for telling me about the traction control. I never knew about the "Second" position. Hit the button and it's on or off. No excitement there. But if you hold in the traction off button and another light on the dash comes on showing a little car leaving burnout strips. WTF? I've gotta check this out!
I had to do a quick U-turn around a median so I hit the gas. The tires lit up around the turn the back end violently turns my 180 into a 220. Correcting the Camaro in "fun" mode is like riding a bucking Bronco. Loads of fun but it'll take some practice in an empty parking lot. Had I discovered this earlier, the Camaro would be returned without tread on the rear tires.

Here is the Camaro on top of the Dragon's overlook.

It had rained earlier in the day. The shady spots on the Dragon were wet and the Camaro is heavy and tall. The V-6's automatic transmission is completely indecisive and totally lost on a road with curves of various elevations. Putting the trans in Sport Manual mode engages the Faux Paddle shifters which are just buttons on the left and right back side. None-the-less, the buttons did fine and shifts were very fast. I ran the Dragon as aggressive as I felt comfortable (35-45mph and 50-55 on the straights).

The car is huge and feels like it takes up the entire lane. The high fender corners don't give much comfort to knowing where you are in the lane. The A-Pillars seem very thick and wide so looking up the road to the next turns is difficult. The short windshield places the rear view mirror low and blocking part of my forward view. The belt lines (where the window meets the door are very high like the Chrysler 300 giving the muscle car look but it also places the sideview mirrors very high too. With the large side mirrors, this also blocks your view looking up the road for the next corner.

Blind spots on the car are large enough to lose a small bus load of Nuns. The C-Pillars are massive and the rear package shelf is very high. Combine that with the wide B-Pillars and the seat belt that blocks your view out the 5" rear side windows. The original Camaro did not have a B-Pillar. I wish Chevrolet had done away with the B-Pillar and added roll up rear windows with a seal.

At the end of the trip, I was sad to let the Camaro go. At every gas station, I was pelted with gawkers who had to check it out. Middle-aged men would cross a parking lot to come and talk to me about it and tell the tails of the 68-69 Camaro they once had. I visited a couple customers and coincidentally both of my contacts once had a '69 of their own. So naturally I let them take it for a spin. I hadn't seen this kind of reaction to the 2005 Mustang. I think GM hit a homerun with the styling of the new Camaro. They balanced out the nostolgic appeal with modern technology but somewhere in the journey lost a bit of the muscle car soul. The V-6 is peppy and kind on the fuel but lacks the acoustics of a muscle car. I was embarrassed to pull out quickly for fear of a less than impressive sound pulling away. It is as quiet as the Monte Carlo, another euphenized muscle car turned modern.

Perhaps aftermarket exhaust, wheels, tires, springs and intake will help pull this car further away from a bland fate. Perhaps I am just too harsh ... I wish Enterprise had the SS available for rent. Then again, 426 Hp would put me in the ditch a whole lot faster.

No prob Brian
Glad I would help...
Like I said it is one of the best "competition mode's" I think out there.
I wish the new Z had somethig like that I would prob push the car a bit harder then I do already which is prob not a good thing...hahahah

There is alot of people "supping up" the V-6
It is legit 300 lbs lighter then the SS and with a good set of Coil overs sway bars and a few basic boltons I bet it would be alot fun to drive
Let alone a 70 shot...hmmm
