Default automotive engineering school

recently ive been debating whether or not i should go into the automotive industry...im 19 years old, second year pharmacy student in St John's 6 year Pharm D program...as great as that may sound, i hate it. My father owns his own pharmacy and i work their every week and i just cant stand it. Now i want to go to automotive school because its my passion and its what i love but i have no idea where to head...I really want to eventually be able to open my own shop. I also want to try and get a job at major company such as Nissan as a desk job such as automotive design and what not...

does anyone know where i should start looking and what schools their are in NY and what major i should choose? Im researching it all right now but im just looking for anyone on here with first hand experience.

u wont make much $ doing automotive engineering...
proly max out at 75,000-100,000 ...
pharmacy is proly around same way... maxing out 75,000-100,000 but if its working for ur family... u'll always have a job and get dividents in the end of the year...
imo... take a summer course in automotives and see if u like it.... (testing the waters)
i love cars too and i'd love to do my own work on my cars... i'd not do it as a living... i'd rather take a class or two and get the basics down...

75-100k for pharma, no way...theres alot more potential from my understanding depending on the traffic in the pharmacy. Im sure you know what kind of $ your dad makes and if its a significant amount i say stick with the pharm program. Like vanquish said, maybe take some kind of summer course first. Getting a desk job at Nissan probably wont be any better than working at a pharmacy. Design maybe alot better but im sure it's really competitive and theres alot of kids your age that have been doing it for a while now.

you may need to sacrifice alot of time doing somehting you may not truly love(as do most people), but with time comes $$ and money will allow you to eventually pursue your hobbies and passions.

well first.. what do you really want to do with automotive stuff? your own shop vs. nissan desk job.. hey did the papers come in on that sentra yet? <--- id rather count viagra.. owning your own shop however can make you a good amount of $ but what kind of shop? i mean if you can get a string of quick oil places open you can make mad $$ but if you want to go into performance it will be harder..

Edit*
