Question Winter Driving

Hi All,

I am a new 350Z owner in the state of Rhode Island. I have posted this question on the new owner forum, but I felt the people in this forum would really be the ones to know.

What about driving the Z in the snow? This is not an activity I want to do, however, there are times it might become necessary. I hope some of you Northeasterners have faced this and have some good suggestions. Any would be appreciated, except leave it in the garage. I might want to but this might not always be an option.

Thanks.

Quig

Its an f-ing sled. Had mine out once in the snow cause my other car got a flat tire. Never again. People are going to tell you to buy snow tires but honestly I dont think it'll help ya that much! Best bet-lots of prayers.

Uh thanks Nick. The warning was good anyway. I'm definitely praying for a snow free winter.

I beg to differ on the snow tires....I've been driving my Z with snow tires on all four wheels for the past three New England winters, and I've never gotten stuck in a storm. As long as you have the proper tires and don't drive like an idiot, you can handle snow in the Z with no problems.

Many of the people here who complain about the Z's handling in the winter tend to base their opinions on driving it with the stock Potenzas, which is a lousy example. The stock tires are just plain unsafe in the snow...if you try driving on them in a snowstorm, you're taking a big chance.

Thanks for the snow tire info. I hadn't considered putting the snow tires on all four tires, but that does seem like a plan. I'm glad to hear that you've driven here in New England that way and haven't been stuck. Thanks for the encouragement.

You'll definitely want to have them on all four wheels; otherwise, you're going to have awesome snow grip with the rear wheels and zero grip with the front wheels...obviously not a good scenario.

Along with having the snow tires, you'll also want to make sure you use some typical wintertime common sense...drive in accordance with the conditions, and try to avoid the biggest blizzards if possible (although the Z can handle the snow with the right tires, it's definitely not a Hummer).

Tires are so important for winter driving. Even if there is no snow on the road the stock tires are useless.
