Default East Coast Meet

I know this is kind of early to start talking about next year but we have to start somewhere.

Every year the Supra community has a couple of meets that are yearly events and they get massive turnouts. I'm trying to gauge interest to see if this is something we can try to do.

We could make it a weekend long event and try to have track time, cruises, bar-b-Q, and Maybe get a couple of the forum sponsors to show up and have specials.

I'm a G35 coupe owner but this could be something that is for both Z's and G's maybe bring our cars together more.

I know that the CT guys are working on something big, and I'm not trying to steal their thunder, only seeing how much interest there is.

I originally posted this on the G35 forums but I thought I would also post it here.

Let me know what your thoughts are and if you have any suggestions on locations please throw them out.

Default OGUNQUIT would be nice

Hey Chris,

I suppose that we just need to coordinate so as not to have our dates clash; other than that I’ll make myself available to be yelled at by the parking attendant, once again. Maybe not, if I could get Roger to do a few burns and drift around with his mean machine.

Trust that you had a good thanksgiving.

Gerald

G

My Thanksgiving was good. I had to work so it was pretty uneventfull ( no turkey dinner) thanks for asking. How was yours?

I can't wait until you two maniacs get together with your Prochargers. I would actually pay to see it.

I'm always interested in meets. We've got plenty of time, but you are right, Chris, to start planning ahead. Especially if we are talking about a weekend with track time. Ogunquit was nice, but the track officials didn't like Gerald. How far is it from Ogunquit to Loudon, NH? I'm sure that those folks would be more amenable to our driving a little on the fast side.

Yeh they were not happy with Gerald

Which would guys rather do...

1) Autocross at a non track location

2) Go to A Road Racing Track

3) Go to A Dragstrip
I would start a poll but I can't figure it out.

What are our options in the Northeast for tracks? Are there any Road courses and Dragstrips at the same location?

I'm going to start calling tracks this week and see what our options are.

I would prefer road racing track first, autocross second, drag strip third. The tracks in NE are probably NHIS in Loudon, NH or Limerock in ??, CT. I'm not sure at all about drag strips.

Chris, Jeff wants to try out his Teins so we can't go drag racing . Loudon would be cool. You'd probably want to find out about hotels and places to eat as well.

I'm always down for a meet but I'm not sure if I could do a whole weekend thing as we're a family of three and my car can only carry two. Having said this, keep moving forward with this idea as I may be able to come up with idea by then.

Chris, let us know if you need anything from us.

As far as a CT meet, I have yet to get into what we're going to do. We definitely will do something but I need to get together with my CT buddies to share ideas.

What if we try to do something at Lime Rock? CT seems to be a central place for alot of the owners.

Maybe the Bar-B-Q could be closer to you guys and then we drive to Lime Rock. Or have Lime Rock on Friday and the BBQ on Saturday.

If we can't get a track day maybe we just cruise to Lime Rock for a race. The Ferrari's will be there in July. Spend one day cruising and one day BBQ'ing. Maybe a Sat and Sun.

Any ideas?

Lime Rock sounds like a great idea. With all the car clubs that hold track days there, it probably wouldn't be too hard to organize.

In the event we can't organize a track day, I'd also be up for cruising to to Lime Rock for a race/BBQ...having the meet near Hartford and crusing to Ferrari Days at Lime Rock afterwards worked out really well last July. Plus we could still have a minature track day of sorts at the kart track there if people want to get the competitive juices flowing.

Chris, that's kinda what we did this year, minus the barbeque, all in one day. We had a meet with trophies, raffles, etc. and then all drove to Lime Rock for Ferrari racing day. Some people liked the ride, some didn't as it took about 1-1/2 hours from where our morning meet was held. Also, the parking area we were given at Lime Rock was on a grassy/dirt area and the cars were filthy at the end of the day which some people weren't happy about either. The only concern with a 2-day event is how many people are willing to spend a weekend doing this. I think you would get a bigger turnout for a 1-day event which could involve a barbeque and a cruise.

I think it's difficult to get a track day at Lime Rock as many clubs book days way in advance. You can check with them on this but they may only be willing to give you a weekday which would be tough to get a good turnout. In addition, you would probably have to get people to pay in advance.

I think a barbeque and a cruise would be fun if all done in one day. I think people would get bored staying at one spot for a whole day. This was one of the things I was worried about with the XXTuning meet but because there was alot of stuff going on, it was cold, and the fact that it gets dark early in November made it tough to plan a cruise with all the cars. I would like to do a similar thing next spring/summer where we can enjoy tuning, mods., etc. and then go for a fun cruise somewhere. I would set a time limit at XXTuning as a whole day there would be too much.

It's good to start some communication like this about meets as it will help us all to have some good times next year.

Let's get some more ideas from other members.

Default Meet Idea

Chris, we can make this meet be our big meet for 2004. I think a central location where people from north and south could get to without too much trouble is key. I think Connecticut is good because we can get people from as far south as Maryland to come up and we've had people from Canada come down. As much as I like Maine, I think it will be too far for our NY/NJ/PA/MD members. Let me know if this would be a problem.

As far as ideas go, if you want a weekend type, meet here are a few ideas. We can make it flexible so that people can attend anyone or all of these events:

Day 1 (Friday) - XXTuning has 3 track days reserved at Lebanon Valley in NY which we have been invited to. This is for drag racing only. They will have 125 cars attending in you can do anywhere from 20-25 runs. This is all in good fun. The dates they have reserved are May 21st, August ? (to be determined), and October 1st.

Day 2 (Saturday) - Lime Rock hasn't posted their complete 2004 schedule. If we want to do Ferrari racing day, we can do it this day. If the date does not coincide with the drag days, we can scratch the Friday drag day. However, if people are more interested in the drag day, we can look for an event that falls on one of those dates posted above and attend that event. We can also do the Kart racing at Lime Rock as Dave mentioned.

Day 3 (Sunday) - Park meet where we can have food, prizes, raffles, etc. The problem here is getting a location. As much as I would love to have an open meet here where any sponsor can come and promote their products, I don't know of a location that will allow me to do this. I know XXTuning can get a location for us and bring their dyno machines but I do not want to exclude our other vendors from promoting their products. This is something that would require some thought.

Of course, these are just ideas. Maybe Sunday is not good for a park meet for vendors. Let me know what you at least think of this concept and could work from here.

That all sounds great. I also think CT is pretty central. It would be about a 4 hr drive for me.

If we don't do the Drag racing the same weekend as Lime Rock there's no reason we can't still go to one of the drag days at a seperate time. I really want to see that 700rwhp Supra at the strip.

Also we don't have to do the Ferrari days, we could just pick a race to go to. Here is the link for a Grand Prix in May.
http://www.limerock.com/LRP-Events/grandPrix.html

I know Z-1 had mentioned he had a race car maybe we go on a day when he is racing.

I'll start checking on a place to have the meet. I've got a couple connections with the man (if you know what I mean).

I've gotten a pretty good response from the G35 forums also. So hopefully this time my fellow G35 guys will represent well.

I think we are headed in the right direction but if anyone else has ideas please throw them at us.

Someone on another forum suggested having a meet at this park:

http://www.state.ma.us/dem/parks/purg.htm

I haven't been there but it looks cool, anyone in the area know of it? Plus its in Mass, no longass drive this time. It's about time the CT boys drove for a little longer than 30 minutes.
