Default Who do you guys use for insurance and what do you pay (NY +LI only)

Was going over stuff today and I realized I am pretty sick of paying the insurance bill I am! My record is relatively clean...last incident is a bit over 3.5 years old now (car accident). No other tickets in that time. I am with Progressive right now, which is a great company, but paying a bit under $3k a year.....there has to be a better way!

So who are you guys using? Any recommendations? I obviously want to stay with a reputable firm, so there are no issues should a claim need to be filed, but right now I feel like I'm making 2 car payments because of these premiums!

Try Geico, they have good rates and very very fast service. I pay around 2400 a year. That's with a speeding ticket.

Although I'm from JeRZee, you might want to request a copy of your insurance points and/or record. I had 3 "my fault" accidents on my record which are 5 points each with the insurance company. These take 3 years to remove indefinately, regardless of your DMV driving record, even if you're record is clean, etc.

I had a 2 points with the DMV for Reckless driving and 4 points for speeding 92 in a 65 on the G.S. Parkway coming back from Seaside Heights WAYYYYY back in 1999. My insurance company didn't kick me off until 2 years later when the accidents I had affixed to my insurance record. At that time, DMV was clear and had NO points. Also, DMV doesn't care if you get into an accident. Hope this helped.....peace all

By the way.....full coverage with NJ Manufacturers $987/year (under my parents name)...I'm 23, and had enough credit to put car in my name but finance payments and insurance > my salary...just got a letter saying it's $20 more a month to have coverage on the Eclipse AVN2454 Nav/DVD/CD/MP3 receiver.

yeah under your parents name I could understand- being that I am 30 and long since out of my house, that's not exactly feasible anymore

I have a copy of my license record so I know what's on it, but just seems that us LI'ers get screwed on the ins thing..damn population density!

Ask for 1000 deductable I did that and it lowered my payment 170 every six months. I.m now paying $1033 for six months. For 100k 300k 50k. Also if you have medical insurance through another source remove that. Also if you own a home or have taken a defensive driving course that will also lower your rate. The defensive driving is like 10% off right there.
