WA Petition to not require front plate
Not reading through more that Sec. 1 of the intitative, all I have to say is; YES!
I've already been pulled over once and ticketed for not having a front plate on my Z. And since then I haven't learned my lesson, this initiative would save me from the trouble of having to go through that whole hassel again.

Haven't been running mine for almost a year now...no ticket yet. Knock on wood.
They could write me tickets all day long, that plate is NOT going on the front of the car unless they can give me a good reason (besides it's the law) that they need it on there.

I have received a ticket, but I will fight the battle in court. I do have a plate attached to my passenger visor, just to pacify the more ****... As far as I see, I am in compliance with the law which basically states it must be in a prominent location, clearly visible - between 1 and 4 feet off the ground.... wish me luck - I go to court in May!

I'm sure everyone has heard that law enforcement likes it when a car has a front license plate because it provides a good refective surface to bounce radar and lasers off of. How true is that? It seems to make so sense, but is it truly the case? I recall an episode of Mythbusters where the were testing out auto "Stealth" myths and nothing they did seemed to effect their results from what I recall. Although they were not testing the effective range, just the factor of if they could get a reading or not.
drivesolo, i saw that same mythbusters heheh
from expierience, plates do provide a little reflective surface but thats not the only reason they are required here (oregon), I been told by cop relatives, and past training myself, that the plate is for Identification like photo radars, and people to make complaints and ID a vehicle.
anyway laser is VISUALLY off reflective surface of the lic plate is nothing compared to, the winshield, shiny paint, any chrome, youd need something like black acoustic or egg crate foam that absorbs the IR laser to have any favorable effect.. since it does not penetrate like doppler (below)
as far as RADAR (non laser) it dont make a difference since it penetrated and reflects from dence materials liek sheet metal, engine, drivetrain, anything solid.
