I seriously doubt that he just has a downpipe, those usually go hand-in-hand with some turbo chicanery.

Of course, if it is actually an STi, then he should be upset that he just beat you...

I think you just need to work on quicker shifts. When you hit the limiter, you lose some speed during the transition. You just got your Z right? it took me a while to get down my launch and shifts. I launch at around 4 and somewhat slip the clutch. I keep the throttle at around 70% and and control the rpm so that its not just hitting redline and spinning out. WIth all of our torque, you gotta make sure you arent just burning rubber. Takes practice and tires.

Wrx's can gain lots of power quick! Especially with the turbo, and cheaper parts. Im willing to bet that he had a boost controller with his up-pipe and down-pipe. Those three mods alone add serious gains. I raced one that looked bone stock, but had a manual boost controller pushing 16lbs (whatever max boost their stock turbo can spool) with an up-pipe and down-pipe. It was close all the way up to around 80mph (i was 1 car ahead) until i started to pull away. This was all before my headers, cats, and plenum though.

Let me race him!

See you around school

yea, unless you were shifting slow/ hitting redline before each shift, he probably has some way to add boost. with uppipe, downpipe, and running around 16lbs of boost those cars are around 230awhp and have the awd advantage off the line. it's going to suck when i install all those parts on my friends wrx next week.

Take it from a WRX owner... Sounds like you guys raced from the stop. He has the advantage already right there. But uppipe and downpipe alone is not enough to beat a stock 350Z. How fast did you guys race up too? With all respect, the reason you lost is your driving.... UNLESS your friend is shitting you about his mods.

Jason

P.S. WRX parts aren't that much cheaper... Brian just likes to make himself feel better....

well, got done installing a bunch of parts on my friends wrx this weekend and got rid of some left over rattles today. with an uppipe, downpipe, cat back, and cobb accessport engine management, his car is definitely much faster. we did two runs from 30-around 90. first run we were neck and neck, and second run he inched foward a little bit. i was definitely shocked. i knew from a dig he would probably take me, but i did not expect those results from 30-90. next time i'm going to have to try 50 and up and see how his top end is, since that is what really sucked before.

now i need more power!
