Default BANG!! Done....

It’s tough writing this right now. I mean… this sucks a lot more than writing about a ticket or a new door ding that’s chipped the paint or anything else that seems trivial by comparison.

At about 5:50AM this morning as I was heading to work, I was blind sided at the end of my street by a Honda Civic driving in the middle of the road. We collided driver's side to driver's side. In a blink of an eye, BAM!! It was done. Both airbags went off in the Z, aside from a bruised lip and a scratch on my forearm where the seam of airbag hit me when it went off, I’m mostly okay 'cept for the spot between my shoulders that's a little sore, gonna call my doc to see if I can get in to have me checked out. My Z on the other hand didn’t fair so well. The driver in the Civic was okay too, it was toast too, but for some reason her passenger side airbag didn’t go off. Excuse the cr@ppy camera phone and the shaky hand.

Right now I want to be mad at the driver of the Honda, but I’m too consumed w/ grief on what’s happened to my car. I’ll probably be mad at her later once everything has seattled. I’ve already contacted the insurance company and they’ll get back to me tomorrow about my claim. The fire department guys were pretty cool about the whole thing, asking me what mods I’ve done, one guy being a motor head to was asking all types of questions about the ’07 Z, I guess he was thinking about getting one. I wish I was in more of a mood to discuss things, but I was not in the best of spirits at that time.

That was the first time I’ve had an airbag go off on me. I was wearing sunglasses at the time and I have to say that it wasn’t as bad as I though it would be. On initial inspection of the Z as it was being taken away, it looked like the front sway bar was pushed back, I’m thinking that the chassis might be bent. The windshield was also cracked making me think that there was also something else pushed back that shouldn’t have been.

No citations were written, the police officer verified the claim that the car was in the middle of the road in his report. Nope… no excessive speed, just a bad call on the part of the Civic driver. She didn't even swerve to try to avoid me, I couldn't bcause there was a parked car on my right. The insurance company has been contacted. We happend to have the same company. We were probably going at 20-25mph (guessing) each so that would be a 40-50 mph head on. Hopefully my insurance company will do right by me.

Right now I could use some advice on what to do about the mods that I currently have on the car. It's currently at the towing company's impound lot. If it get’s totaled out, I would like to get back some of the expensive items I put into it or at least be compensated for them. The towing guy said that as long as I have receipts for the items, I can work it out w/ my insurance company. Anyone have any experience w/ things like this? Any help you can give would be appreciated.

After everything was done and the debris was being swept up by the fire department, I found one thing in debris that was worth picking up.

Sorry to hear about the accident. It doesn't really look too bad. Possibly repairable but, it's hard to tell from the pics. good luck

My condolences. Will you be staying with the Z community, or move on to something else?

Dude, im sorry to hear that. My heart sank when i saw those pics. I coudn't imagine someone smashing into my new car. I think you'll get pretty pissed off about the whole situation soon enough but you have to realize that in the end, its just a car and everything will be ok in the end. Keep your head up buddy and don't stress too much about it.

owwiee...When I got into my bad accident in my Lexus, with all the aftermarket stuff I had on it, they replaced for me. They would have just put it back to stock if it had been my fault (because I didn't insure my upgrades). Just give them all the receipts, and of course they will try to go online and get the cheapest prices around. If they try to total it, call me and give me the figure (they try to lowball a lot) I can get the true numbers on teh car for you that you can bring to them, and demand that. Also, what id this state's law on totaling? 70% of the value?

They won't total your car out. I hope you weren't hoping for that. After it's fixed in 3-4 weeks make sure you strip all the mods and sell that thing. Take your losses and find yourself a new Z. Mod it back up and call it a day.

Sorry that happened to you bro. That sucks! But it's really cool that you and the other driver are ok man! Keep your head up..

Aw, damn Noel.

Glad you're OK -- First things first, right?

I've still got a lot of my stock parts -- wheels, exhaust, sways that you're more than welcome to. I'll even help swap the parts out and throw in the use of my uberfast turbo6 (dodge ram) to haul the parts around with. I'll give ya a call here in a few -- I think I've still got your number here somewhere.

wow...so that's why I didn't see you online this morning. Glad you're okay - let me know how I can help.

how many miles was on the Z? It's an '03, so it might be totaled...chasis damage, windshield, airbags,...those things add up. When my Civic was totaled, the insruance company wasn't going to give me anything extra for the extra parts I had on it...so I took everything off and sold them.

wow...

Ok, aside from some lame, insentive, and sexist comments on this post it's seriously a heart wrenching one.

I totalled my Integra that I worked on for 4 years in January and it was really tough, I don't know what your situation might come out to be but if the chassis is bent then regardless of what your insurance is gonna do (fix/total) you should consider a new Z.

What mods do you have right now on it?

If it's totalled, check the buy back price. My guess totalled. You can have the car taken to you house, remove the goods and then have the insurance/salvage people pick it up from your house. Your car when towed after an accident can be delivered anywhere and doesn't have to go to impound lot unless the law enforcement has a problem with you.
