I'm not condoning street racing, but seems to me that this event does not support any kind of moral why street racing was a direct result of the deaths and injuries. Would the moral be 'Don't street race or else someone in a large sedan driving down the road w/o his head lights on will hit you while you’re standing by watching and not paying attention to your surroundings.'? If anything, this incident is supporting that it is more dangerous to watch a street race than the actual act of doing it.

 

I dont see why America doesnt try and make more tracks then.. If this is that big of a problem..

did you read the article? Sounds to me like the sedan driver's vision was obstructed by the tire smoke.

Also, do you think there would have been a big crowd of people standing by the side of the road at 3am if there wasn't an illegal street race going on?

 

To me this was an unusual case. Typically you here about some idiots street racing in town that end up causing a wreck and killing people. This instance people were out on an open stretch of road, and were there at a time of night that they thought would have no traffic. In some sense they were trying to be safer by doing there racing where they thought it was traffic free. No doubt if they had a local drag strip these people would probably use it.

 

I think people should be responsible for their actions and stop pushing blame. You died for standing in the road/to close to the road. A vehicle POSSIBLY driving without its headlights on makes a sharp turn and kills some people. Hmm…lets blame the street racers! They already have a bad reputation, it will be more ammo for the war against them.

The driver in this incident that killed 9 took the blame. Possibly if there had been street racing going on there it would be there fault. Instead there are consumers shopping for agricultural products. Which I find very intriguing to know that solidified in many of us is the urge to blame others. What if it had been a Hashing event? For those who don’t know BASICALLY Hashing is a gathering of runners, who occasionally stop on the side of the road/in the road to chant or wait for others etc. if that driver would have hit hashers would you blame the driver or the hashers? my wife and I witnessed an 18 wheeler demolish a young child around 65mph in extremely heavy fog in the early morning hours where there was 0 visibility. Whos fault was it? The school teachers for getting accountability to close to the street light before the field trip? The truck drivers for going to fast? Or the young boys fault for running out into the middle of the street? WHO DO YOU BLAME? Or what about the time our tank convoy ran over two children that tried to race to the other side of the street? I’m just saying…all instances are different and there are things that could have been done to create a safer environment to potentially avoid these incidents again, but there is always going to have to be someone to step up and account for there actions! Hint: the driver of the vehicle.

LOL.... Yeah, I did. Did you before you posted "Perfect example of why you should take it to the track..."? Maybe you explain how that statement is significant to the occurance of the link you posted? This wasn't the typical case of street racing gone wrong.

If there was not an illegal street race going on at 3am on a public road do you really think there would have been a crowd of people standing in the road and this guy would have plowed into the crowd? That's the point I'm trying to make. They had no business racing on a public road.

 

Of course the tracks would have to be OPEN 24/7

 

It's both side's fault.

What the hell was the guy doing past midnight without headlights so fast and through a cloud of smoke?! Just picture yourself sitting in your car and a wall of smoke is infront of you in the freeway, would you drive through it? I'm a$$ f***ing sure that I would take it slower, most likely it was caused from an accident and I don't want to be a part of it!

The street racers aren't that bad. Its the people that go beyond talking on the cell phone, and are texting and having a conversation like they're at home using AIM. That crap is so dangerous, atleast talking when you're talking, shifting, and steering you're still watching the road.
