Yeah, but now we'll have to make Alvin park in the back of the group photos. I think that's gonna be Ernie's biggest upgrade yet.

Don't do it, bro. You'll regret it. Remember John, aka "aznj" that sold his G and got an Evo? He got an Evo 8, upgraded to Evo 9 turbos and other goodies. It's fast, it's practical (sort of) and whatever else. He regrets it at times, and has been thinking about getting back into another G.

Keep the Z as your car to mod. Save up and do FI, MT swap, etc... down the road. Buy a beater, something cheap with good gas mileage and 4 doors. I love my Jeep, although it's a 5.2 V8 gas guzzler, and it's my daily driver now, in addition to a snowboarding rig. Even with that intent, I couldn't resist throwing on a lift kit, new wheels, and bigger tires.

Bottom line, you WILL mod your next car, and you WILL regret giving up the Z.

I kind of agree & disagree. I say instead of a 6MT swap and all that, get the stock parts back on, sell the car & buy a 6MT swap your parts back on & FI that sucker.

Don't get me wrong, I'm just as sad to see it go as the rest of all ya'll are. And I agree, once a modder, always a modder. It's going to take a lot of restraint on his behalf, but it's his life, and he has to look out for himself.

Notice how much reference there is to Alvin in there?

Thanks Scott, this basically sums it up the best way possible.

There are a few things the MR has that is beneficial to me that I cannot get from the Z at this time

1. Manual (swapping a 6mt into a Z costs over 6k! - and getting a turbo still sucks because it's still a 5at)
2. 4 Doors! I can take 5 people - tons of groceries, and still be one of the fastest best handling car on the road.
3. MR = no need for mod. Stiffer suspension, recaros, turbo - Will I mod it? Yes, slightly for 2-3 years while I complete my grad program. After that? Hell yeah!
4. AWD - I am not sure 100% where I will be but as a daily driver I need a car that is versatile. If I have to go to work in the snow, I won't be scared to drive her. In fact, it'll be fun cause I'll pick up Scott and a few more friends while I'm at it

Either way, I would love to go FI in the Z but the cost, maintenance, and the fact that it's still a 5AT sucks. I can't bring myself to getting another Z because Michelle is buying a 06 G35 coupe this summer so don't worry, we're still around! It would just be Michelle in a G35 and me in an EVO

And yes I think Ernie is not stopping me because he needs another sevan in the group

I don't know but every time I pass an evo or an sti it's either an old man in his mid life crisis, or some ***** *** kid who thinks he's hot **** revvin all over the place.

I do feel for you about the automatic tho... that sucks.

If you need room and are SERIOUS about not modding (buying an evo doesn't convince me on that notion), then buy an IS250 or something.
Hey now. Ain't nuttin' wrong with a mid-life crisis. Wait until you all get there. Trust me, you'll be the one that 20-somethings are talking about.

have you sat in an evo 9 before alvin? I don't think you would like it. My friend is on evom.net and he has a really nice evo 9. It has 543whp with a gt35r turbo and has the nice black leather recaros and all. He is currently selling it because he said of the cheap interior(besides seats), horrible oem ride, the car is a bad daily driver he said even when stock and the looks are just bad. he originally bought it for the same reasons as you. It's a fixed up car stock for under 40k that he could just finance instead of modding. Now he's back tryign to buy a mk4 supra.

If I were your age, I'd agree with you more. As it is now, I just couldn't be associated with the image that an Evo/STi has.

Why don't you post a list of all the mods you'll be potentially parting out?

I remember the day when I bought my STI and said.. "i will never mod it.."

Now I'm almost done modding my STI and paying it off, i'm thinking about getting a Nismo 350Z since it has everything. And i'm still telling myself that I will never mod it.. but I will see how that goes.

It seems that the most important part of your decision was to buy something that can actually hold more than just two ppl and couple backpacks. It's a good decision.

But just FYI, 4wd/2wd really doesn't matter all that much when it comes to snow. I almost crashed my STI twice doing 15mph in the snow cuz of tick ice on the ground (once span out pretty darn good).

Welcome to the 4WD family.

+1, it would be much cheaper to do it this way then trying to so a tranny swap

also, i'm in the process of getting a dealer license (should be up and going within a couple of months if all goes well), so i'll be able to get you (alvin) a z right around trade in value from a dealer auction and save you some moola there if you want... iguess i can help you out with the evo in that department also

Wow, definitely sad to see 'Zeattle' go. I mean, it was probably one of the best Z's around.

I'd say go test drive an Evo MR and if you still love it, do what you gotta do.

the trick for snow driving is snow tires, summer tires (the kind most car enthusiasts usuall buy and that come stock on sti's and evo's) suck in the cold, 2wd, 4wd, or 6wd. summer tires and snow isn't gonna give you good control

I see all your points completely and the most relevant one is that I WILL mod it no matter what, its in my blood....which is more than true! I just want to have something that's quick and I can keep it slightly modded for 2-3 years. And by slightly I mean springs and a nice head unit or so. Of course it's going to be hard but I'll keep my main modding to *after* grad school when I have a career oriented job.

Plus, this is a nice dual image. I'm going to be helping Michelle get her new G35 to where she wants it to be anyway so it'll be nice to have that car as well. If we're going to a super nice black tie event we'll take the G, if its a fun event BBQ or something on a nice weekend day with you guys I'll roll the EvoMR so I can bring more BBQ food!

Just think about it...having 2 RWD - a 350z and a G35 - sports car with not a lot of cargo space for two is just not practical especially since they are going to be our *only* cars.

That would be KILLER! I don't know for sure how long this will take for you but I'm hoping to have the Z parted out completely in 4 weeks and then trade it in.

I'm going to post a Part Out list here pretty soon for locals for the 1st week only and after that I will post it out on the main forum.
