Don't get all butthurt and start taking things personally. You're going to do whatever you want anyways...that much is obvious at this point. Since I know you and you're a local, I'd feel bad if I didn't speak up on this subject. Just don't be surprised at how how steep the learning will be, meaning it'll be much longer before you can keep up with riders that are actually good. I'm done here.

well, what sghould I get for a first bike? I always thought that I would have to go to a liter bike just due to my size. I have ridden friends' gsxr 600's and 750's, but they are too small for me. I think I almost need the 1000 just for the size alone. Besides. I only like going straight in my car...figure the bike would be the same

lol, I would kill myself...alos, on a side note. I found a timeslip from when I was ****ered up and when to the track at pacific raceways. Found out I drive better when inebriated...pulled a 12.8@114.6mph with a 2.1 60'. Best sober was a 13.025 @ 113 or 114.

Hey George hit up my buddy B H T on my myspace friends and see if he still has one for sale, I know he had 4 bikes recently 1 being a caged stunt bike exculsively. And he was trying to sell another one for a friend but I think it was a 900 RR not quite the 1000 but still nice bike...

You're not buying a H-D or a chopper or a Goldwing. Sportbikes are made for the turns.

it was a joke...I corner in my car...well more like a drift anyway. Don't know how hard I would push it in the corners, but I know myself, and it would be close to the limit just like in my car.

I'm 6'1", 260lbs and can clutch wheelies on my 500. Don't hang too tightly onto preconceptions of size requirements dudey! Head down to RMC and sit on a few until you find a couple that are comfortable in the 600-650cc range and start your research from there. Almost nobody out there makes a bad bike these days, but not everyone makes a comfortable one!

LOL... it don't matter what people think you look like, 'cause they'll only have about two seconds to think it as you split lanes on 'em! Besides, worst case scenario, we'd push your handlebars an inch or two down the triple clamps to lean you right back down.

Damn.. I really gotta fix my bike.

How you look on a bike is a factor in the decision making process, but it shouldn't be anywhere near the top of the list.

I would take Pat's advice guys. If it's your first bike, 600cc should be MORE than enough for you.

I would agree with you to a point, but not completely. I've owned 3 liter bikes since 01 and no problems. I actually bought a new 01 gsxr 1000 and learned on it.

I would have to say, it depends on the person and what kind of respect you have for the power.

Take a look at the difference in power between that and a new R1 though. Either way, all this is moot. There's no convincing this one.

As far as where to look, I'm all about used bikes, especially for your first. You're pretty much limited to CL and Cycle Trader. You'll cry a little less when you drop/crash a bike that cost $6K vs. $12K. It tends to be easier/cheaper to fix too.

Well, power is power whether it is an 01 or 08. I could power wheelie in first gear and second gear just as easily as the newer bikes. I found the 01 to be harder since it was more bulky. But you're right, if a person wants something, they're going to get it no matter what.

It is better to drop a used one lol.
