alarm suggestions
Alrighty, I've gathered the funds for a nice alarm and I'd like your guys input.
Features I'm after:
2 way paging
1 mile range
LCD key fob
Remote start
the rest is just icing on the cake. I've found the viper SST 5900 for as cheap as 150.00$ online, which seems like a pretty killer deal. I don't have the expertise to install it properly so I am going to be paying a good chunk to get it done right. I've also seen an auto page system with a color lcd and all the features I wanted that was pretty sweet, but I realize that isn't as big of a brand name system..
I wasn't too happy with the quote at my usual place. Price isn't the only factor as I don't want a $hitty job, but I don't want to overpay for it either.
Can you suggest some local places for me to hit up for a quote? Should I buy the alarm through the installer or just order that SST 5900 for 150$? do you have a different suggestion for which alarm system to grab?
appreciate your advice and suggestions in advance.

I heavily recommend Pete for any other locals considering alarms/audio installs etc. The dude works incredibly quick and does real clean installs, and his price is half of what you would pay in retail.
clifford 50.7x - I've yet to find a practical distance it can't handle. I thought for sure it wouldn't get through my building at work. I can't get cell reception in this building at all, it's a couple stories high, parking is a couple blocks length away. once you leave the customer service area the warehouse is gigantic, probably another four city blocks from the door to the far corner, it still reaches from there
.. it's filled to the brink with racks and racks of shoes, plenty of stuff to get in the way of the signal.
I originally approached him about the viper sst 5900, this was maybe 60 dollars more, comes with an extra remote, same features pretty much.. supposed to have a slightly faster response time. the extra remote was the big thing though :]

When my horse and lion are unavailable, I protect my Z with this:

Wish the range was a bit further, but other than that I'm satisfied with my purchase. Plus, the remote start keps my seats and cabin warm in the winter.
I used the have (almost) same thing (from Python) on my last car. Quality piece of equipment that.

I would go with training the lion and horse, seems cheaper. Mind you, the viper kit is cheaper than replacing the car; if it works.
you guys realize clifford, viper, python.. more or less, are all the same?
that being said this clifford model is the same as the 5901, just branded as clifford and the keyfob looks a little different (though the screen icons etc all look the same)

i have a viper 5901 (i believe) that came with the car when i bought it. it used to work fine, but if the drivers door swings open all the way, it locks the doors, but other than that it was ok. now, when i push the lock button, it arms the alarm but the doors don't lock. it also has the remote start function, and i can start my car with the key without having to push the clutch in, but it never worked at all. the car tries to start 3-4 times, but just jumps forward and dies then repeats. i got pissed and switched back to the factory fob. if anyone can recommend somewhere i can take it to get fixed for less than $100 in the puyallup/tacoma/federal way area i'd much appreciate it. otherwise i'm buying a loin and a pony...
^ My remote start and other sensors would act up too on my viper alarm in my previous car. Ever since I got it installed on the Z it has worked flawlessly. The guy who switched it out at Tweeter told me that the previous installer did a $hitty job which caused the glitches. Try taking it in where you go it installed so they can take a look at it. Should be free.
