taillight black outs.... and cops
I've been told by an old friend of my Dad's, that there isn't a quota for writing tickets. However, police are expected to have a certain number of "contacts" with the public. These "contacts" don't have to involve writing tickets. It's ultimately up to the cops discretion.
That being said, tickets generate revenue. So if you have a police officer out there that refuses to write chicken **** tickets, he isn't bringing in the money that the ticket would generate. If you had more police like him patroling, unfortunately, the state loses the money that would've been brought in by that ticket. This type of cop is likely to get re-assigned and replaced by, essentially, some bully with a badge because he brings in revenue. This is who you're more likely to get pulled over by.
If a cop pulls you over and gives you a warning or a fix-it ticket, I believe that this guy is "one of the good ones". He may ultimately misunderstand the law as it's written, but he's pulling you over, educating you (at least he thinks so) and letting you get it taken care of before one of the "ticket machine" cops pull you over and asks for your wallet.

You know, I love how every single thread involving cops immediately devolves into the LEO doing something purely predicated on that fact that he or she is a ********, assh0le, *****, bit[h, douchebag, or whatever random name gets thrown. Even the OP, WHO GOT THE TICKET didn't do that.
I believe its a requirement to become a LEO
Do YOU never make mistakes? There's a reason that the law is written the way it is, and a reason that there are individuals whose career is predicated on enforcing it. Did you ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, he was doing his job and made a mistake?
I think there are much better things he could be doing while on the job
When you go to bed tonight, take a minute to think about the fact that you can sleep easy knowing that you are protected by the men and women in law enforcement and the armed forces who are willing to compromise their own safety and are prepared to visit violence upon those who may wish you harm, and that you will be tended to by the individuals in public safety if something were to happen to you.

Are all cops on a power trip and abuse their power? Obviously not. Do some of them...oh yeah.
Just like you (assuming you are a cop) get tired of people talking bad about your profession, We the citizens get tired of cops being blatant hypocrites about the laws and hiding behind the badge. Two sides of the fence I guess...depends on which side you're watching from.

Just the other day a LEO runs a red light turning left, turns on his lights for a few seconds, than turns them off and starts driving normally again. D1psh1t made me slam on my brakes in the middle of the intersection so i didnt slam into him. When i pull up next to him at the next light, hes staring me down like i did something wrong. gotta love um lol
Or here's an idea for ya Ace so you don't lose your tints...
Just swap tails with me so you have OEM lighting again....go clear the ticket....then swap your tints back on.
Unless the tints look good on my car and then I suppose you just lost them to me...hee hee!!
