I've gone every year. There's always a ton of cars, I guess you could say it's a cluster ****, but whatever, don't really care, there's generally some cool stuff there mixed in with all the garbage the 16yr old fanboys bring out.

I have gone every year I had my Z and agree with you, there are defiantly some diamonds in the field of coal that shows up.
I don't think anyone here is saying there aren't a handful or two of hella cool builds to check out. there's plenty of cars to admire once you are situated.
the cluster **** comment is sheerly the parking situation. they pick golden gardens, a very popular public beach area, to bring out a few hundred cars to. there is always a parking problem. you can't roll in with a caravan of friends and park next to each other.
if you go solo and drive around and eventually find parking, then meet up with your pals.. it's alright : )
lol yeah if you roll in a caravan you gotta get there early. I've never really cared, I just show up, walk around for a while, then head to Dicks or something. hahaha
