Default Rear Ended! What to do? DB Rear Wanted!

Stupid rainy weather, plus dumb drivers that speed and follow too close, equals slight license plate impression in rear bumper, thank god it wasn't worse. The other driver wants to settle with cash. How much should I ask for? The bolts in the licens plate frame made small gouges, and you can see the top outline of the license frame in my bumper. What's a fair price, should I just try and find a stock DB rear? Argghhh, suggestions folks, please.

So you took it in the rear?

J/K!!!

That sucks Brandon, sorry to hear about your accident. But like you said, good thing it wasn't that bad. With the weather as bad as it is, the accident could have been a lot worse!

As for how much to charge the guy, I would first take your car to a reputable shop and get an estimate. Make sure they are willing to go the extra mile to get the paint matched perfectly.
1. Ask how much it would be to fix and repaint the bumper
2. Ask how much it would be to only repaint the entire bumper

Then find out how much a new bumper would cost and add in the cost of painting - this is how much I would charge the guy.

I would then go with the cheapest option (and pocket the change, if there is any).

Also, check out this thread. Some dude possibly selling a DB rear bumper:

sorry to hear about your accident. but i'm glad that you're ok and that theres only slight damage.

but i would take it to a shop and have them take off the bumper cover to make sure the brackets or reinforcements underneath the bumper are not damaged.

pm me if you need a local shop. you're still in san bruno, right?

I asked about a replacement bumper, and I think they quoted me $800... this was the dealer.

I believe the driver behind you did not want to involve his insuarance to avoid a raise of his premium. Or maybe he is not insured. But if your estimate reach $800, he may as well just involve his insurance. Let's hope now he will keep his promise. I got a case like that where "we dont need to call the cops, let's just settle this together". As soon as you are asking for your money, the guy dont know you anymore. You end up in the small claim court.

Whatever you do decide on doing, do not wait too long as if this person decides he does not want to pay for the full amount of damages, then filing a claim two weeks after an incident might be hard to have the claim paid by the insurance company.

I just called her and asked for $500, hopefully I will be picking up Bubble's rear (get your mind out of the gutter). Here's a pic of the damage.

damn, I just heard. You alright man...
I would still bring it to a shop to get estimate though.. but since you already ask her for $500, let's hope for the best.
even small fender bender could screw up your frame, alignment, etc... which all cost more money to fix besides the bumper replacement.
