Well according to vroom350z, you can just contact him & have it done for $500 when you are ready. If you can get at least 5 people, then the price will drop to $475.

plus another $200+ to get the carbon fiber hood painted. plus gotta make sure it fits and if need be, reinforce the latch or get hood pins.

so you get to save $300+ and don't have to wory about anything else

I saw some CF Hoods on the Hearst castle run and around the vents are lots of spider web looking cracks....No thanks.
CF cracks to easily...The $200 I save I can put toward the V2 front bumper.

Vent hood will give you a COOL looking. As far as function, i doubt it. Unless you have F/I then it might help a bit. Other than that, expect to clean your engine by more often.

I plan on having this done in the next month or two. My V2 kit will be coming in by then and I want to get everything done at once.

Alright,

I'm looking into doing this as well.. So, I did some searching... Apparently there is waterjet cutting technology!!! I saw that the American Chopper guys are using this as well to cut out designs out of a metal plate.

This technology uses a high pressure water stream that's 1mm thick, shoots out water at the speed of sound! This thing can cut pretty much anything smoothly and it doesn't generate heat! I spoke to an engineer and he said it can be done on the hood. He doesn't think the process will hurt the paint either!!! He is asking $200 for this job. I'm going to get this done and let you know how it comes out.

I know that mine were not water jet cut for sure...

The issue with water jet cutting an ali hood is that it is a composite structure with the underbraces and the top surface, so the material is not supported evenly across the whole area. Might be worth checking that they have considered this

Nice ride~ I already check with the engineer about the support frame underneath the aluminum top surface. He said the waterjet can cut through 10cm of solid metal, so I don't think the thin metal support underneath the top surface will matter...

It's not the fact that the waterjet won't cut through, but the fact that the pieces in the top surface of the hood (if you cut from top down) are not supported whilst cutting... so the force of the cutting jet can flex the aluminum skin down with sheer force. This wouldn't happen on a SOLID block, hence why he can cut through 10cm thick material.

Worth checking first

I love the way this hood looks and am curious to see if anyone has a template for the areas that need cut out? I'm getting some paint work done next week and want the body shop to cut my hood like this. Any help on a templete, etc. would be awesome or is this something a shop should be able to do without a template?
