Stopped by CHP - Glass too dark
i hate tint laws! they say it a dangerous situation for a police officer to walk up to a car that has tinted-windows but what if an suv with no tint on the front windows was pulled over and the rears were tinted 20% and someone in the back pulled a gun on the officer? What's the difference?
I was planning to have a uniform tint all around. When I see the back window with heavy tint, it draws my attention so I figure it would also draw a cop's attention. Hopefully less so it it's not so dark.

How dark is too dark? What's the rule? Do they issue fix it tickets? Are there recommendations on actions I should take? (I didn't install the tint, was that way when I bought the car - not in CA).
I like the tint the way it is. But what's involved in changing it? How does that stuff come off?

I run a 6" Front Tint Brow 20% / Rear Window 20% tint. I feel pretty safe after 3 years running this combination. I also run a front plate most of the time so the popo doesn't look at me twice:

I'm tinted 20% in the front and I havn't been pulled in years, even in the small town of Napa.
When I see cops, I roll my windows down, even in the cold. When I got pulled over about 6 months ago for speeding, I made sure I rolled both front windows down before the officer approached my car so to make sure he did not see my tint.
At the end of the day, at least you got a warning instead of a fixit ticket

I've never heard of that 2" rule either. I have heard about only being able to tint like the top 4" of the windsheild, like with those 4" wide tinted ricer banners.
When I get my vehicles tinted, I tell the guy to go the darlest you can on the sides, that is still legal. Then I tint the rear windows to taste. The rear window on my Z is one shade lighter than limo. As long as you have 2 outside rear view mirrors, your rear window can be completly blacked out if you want it to be.
I don't recall what % my side windows are but it's the darkest you can go in CA and still be legal.
I have never been questioned about my tints. Ever.
