Default Thunderhill 3/23 with Hooked on Driving

I just signed up to coach at the 3/23 event at Thunderhill with Hooked on Driving. Is anyone else going? For those that have not run with HOD, they put on a safe event with a good amount of track time. Lots of nice cars show up and the owner ususally brings his 350Z race car.

Hope to see some Z's.

I've driven with HOD about half a dozen times, and really liked them. daveh is an excellent instructor too. I highly recommend this event for any level of HPDE driver.

I did the Thunderhill training course, which members of HOD led. It was great, but they put cones in Turn 1 and Turn 8 to keep people safer. I wonder if this was a T-Hill requirement and not HOD. Do you know if HOD uses the same cone setup on their events?

It is a great day on a great course!

Where are they putting these cones, at corner exit? All I remember are cones near the apexes. What I don't like are those barrels they put in at T12 and between T14/T15. Not sure what the purpose of those are for HPDE. For racing...ok they're trying to keep the racers honest.

Several months ago, an acquaintance of mine rolled his E36 M3 at T8. He was an experienced racer. Maybe the Thill execs got spooked.

The cones were well before the turn on these two high speed turns and did their job to slow people down. I think they are beneficial to the first timer and thus justified. I was interested in the HOD as David Ray and Dev both impressed me, but I would prefer to run it without the cones now. Thanks for intel lateapexsti. HOD looks like a great day.

Not sure when the cutoff date is. I would imagine that there is a hard cut-off if they sell out all the slots.

So far there are 3 Z's going. The more the merrier.
I'll probably drive up Friday morning and just make a day trip out of it.

Our registration system is electronic, so there is no real way for me to keep track on how fast a run group will fill up... as of earlier today there where only a few open slots left in the begenner group, and a decent amount left in the intermediate group. Advanced is still open. There's technically not a cutoff date but we would like to see registration complete 24 hours before the event. you can go to http://www.hookedondriving.com/category.cfm?category=1 and click on the register icon, and it will tell you if there are any open spots left in a particular rungroup before you will get to having to pay for the event.

I just got this email from HOD.. Looks like they're full for this Friday. The weather report is predicting a warm and sunny California day!

Good Morning Drivers - Here a couple of quick updates - You HAVE to check out the fun news story done by NBC in Salinas/Monterey on our Valentine's event at Laguna...we have some new broadcast stars among our drivers!! Well done Teri, Russ, Missy and Jennifer! To see the story, go to the HOD website - click on Gallery, then Your Videos and its the first file listed...fun stuff!!
Other updates: This Friday's event has sold out. Thanks to all who jumped in - the weather looks perfect, early signups are in for a drawing for a free set of ADVAN/Yokohama tires, and our D group (race prepped) promises to be quite a car show...some very cool rides coming to join us. Please start making your plans for future HOD events - they ARE popular! And keep in mind that our April 7-8 Dream Weekend at Laguna, complete with a BBQ by the beach in Monterey still has room for you....take another look at this rare opportunity to have 10 sessions at Laguna with small run groups...we hope you can join us. Also - start thinking about Reno-Fernley Raceway on April 28-29 (another weekend) - we have plans coming together for some frolicking in Reno, and the course is a blast....you'll love it. Hope to see you all at the track soon...
David and the HOD Team

What an awesome day at the track. Not one cloud in the sky and just a beautiful day. By the end of the day my brakes and rotors were gone (serious brake fade) so I replaced the rotors and pads with a new setup. I'm heading back to Thunderhill on Tuesday with Golden Gate Lotus Club to test out the new setup.

I'll see you out there then! We met sometime last year...I can't remember which event. I'll be out there in a silverstone Z with G35 wheels and street tires (anticipating rain). My friend will be there too in a stock silver Z.
