I was with AIS (Mercury) for 10 years, all they ever did was raise my rates a little every year. I recently switched to esurance.com and at the very least they were nice to me on the phone and spent plenty of time (three hours total) talking to me about my risk for loss so I could get the right coverage (not as important if you are young and don't have a lot of assets). I ended up with far more coverage than I had with AIS for similar money (it was going to be a lot more for the same coverage through AIS) but had to split coverage over two companies using esurance for 3 of my cars and Grundy for the 4th (my 72 Austin Mini now has agreed value insurance).

At the very least check out their on line quote system. While your at it, check progressive.com as well.

I don't have any claims experience with any of them, fortunately, I have never had a claim. Unfortunately, that is the most critical part of insurance company from a customer perspective, how they treat you when you need them.

i got my Z brand new when i was 22. i paid 109 a month at esurance full coverage. the reason why esurance can be cheaper is cause they try to cut back the overhead costs of a business and send the savings to you. now i i have been driving with a clean and safe record for 2 years, it is now 96 dollars a month.

Read the fine print on your esurance policy. I dropped mine on the first day because I noticed that no one else was covered if they drove my car. I don't let others drive my car that often but if I do, I sure want the car covered.
Just shop around. Geico is expensive in CA for some reason. Try state farm, costco, AAA, allstate, etc.

That is not exactly the case, those not normally covered by the policy are only covered for 15/30 liability (state minimum requirement) instead of whatever the policy is written for.

It is something to consider for sure and everyone should consider their tolerance for risk and the way they use their car.

You need a membership, but for 50 bucks a year, or $100 if you get the executive (total no brainer IMO), it's worth it to save on ins, and use the rest of their services (obvious shopping, automotive supplies, tires, pictures, etc.)

You can do an online quote with your parents membership number I bet, just to see... I'll tell you this: after I switched, I told 5 or 6 friends - all but one switched.

we have two cars, my legacy, and my wifes 05 civic, both full coverage beucase of payments...we pay 1300 a year on BOTH cars and both drivers

through Esurance, not sure if its very good, but i hav been with geico and progressive inthe past, and i cant imagine Esurance be too much worse

the quote i got from them was at least 30 percent cheaper than others...

oh we also both have a perfect driving record...

it is called permissive user liability buy-back.

scenario: u buy insurance and your parents drive it very rarely.

basicly if u accept this $12 charge, the other driver is covered for the same coverage as u. california law says that this must be once in a blue moon though. your parents can't be driving your car once a week. "it has so be random and 1-2 times per 6 month time period"

if you don't accept this coverage, your parents would be covered under state minimum like chris said. in the unfortunate case your parents do more damage than what you are covered for, their insurance is a secondary policy.

if i think i know what you are talking about, it would be violation of coverage, and u may loose everything.

As a member of the armed services (or if your parents were) you will probably qualify for insurance through USAA. It used to be that you had to have been an officer but I think that they've relaxed that requirement. They are not open to the general public. Extraordinary service and very good rates as well as dividends back to insured parties.
