Default Roadtrip anyone?

Me and a friend frequent some of the backroads around the bay area, and I was just curious if anyone would want to come along. We're located in Fremont, but just yesterday drove down Highway 1 along the coastline. It would be fun to have a group of cars. You don't have to drive a Z, my friend is riding in a Ford Focus SVT.

So is anyone interested in going for a drive sometime? If all goes well we could get together regularly.

(Not exactly a roadtrip I know... but w/e)

Final Information:

Meetplace: Osh at 5655 Jarvis Avenue, Newark, CA 94560
Showtime: 4:00PM
Departure: 4:30PM
Route: Niles Canyon Rd - Mines Rd - San Antonio Rd - Mt. Hamilton Rd - Calaveras Rd (Or possibly in reverse order) There will be rest points where you can split off if needed too.
Completion ETA: 8:30PM
Food: We could get a bite to eat afterwards too, let's leave that open for when we finish driving though.
Contact: James (408) 482-6666 if you can't find us.

Expected Turn-out:
08 Darkness (Z?)
sid67jp (Z?)
Eithan Z 1 (Z?)
DerekW (Z?)
mcarther101 (2K3 Track Z)
Kix (2K3 SVT Focus)
Tim (XRS Corolla)

If anyone else plans on showing up please respond in here (or PM me) so we can get an idea of numbers.

Okay we're going for a drive this next Saturday, May 31st. We'll meet up in front of Osh at 5655 Jarvis Avenue, Newark, CA 94560 at 4 PM, and depart at 4:30PM. I'm not sure what road we'll drive yet, maybe Calaveras or something local for starters. PM me if you plan on joining us, just so I can know who to expect.

That'd be cool, but it doesn't necessarily have to be such a long endurance drive like that for it to be fun. I drove that at night with 2 5 hour energy drinks... never again will I drive it, at night. I didn't think of the "this is normally when I sleep" factor.

I'm down for a drive up the hills.

I just went up to Mt Hamilton yesterday afternoon to catch the sunset. The drive was fun, but a bit tight for a big car like our Z and there weren't enough room for the Z to stretch its legs, I'm happy with the lower-end power of the VQ coming out of the corners though. Great fun non the less

I don't plan on going Highway 1 on the 1st trip. Going to stay local (leaning towards Calaveras), we'll go down Highway 1 another day.

Default Which Route?

Okay, I'm debating for the drive Calaveras Rd, Mt. Hamilton & Palomeras Rd.

I was thinking we could go through Calaveras, then hop to Mt. Hamilton and cruise back on the highway afterwards maybe. Mt. Hamilton looks pretty short. What do you guys think?

Edit: I just saw Kincaid road off of Mt. Hamilton, it looks like an interesting road too... but it's long, and we'd have to do a U-turn at the end of it unless we plan on driving through the dirt roads to I-5 on the other side.

Negative on Mt. Hamilton. IMO, too many twisties, narrow road and not much chance to do spirited driving.

Do you have any other suggestions, sid67jp? Your comment is better suited to Calaveras Rd than Mt. Hamilton.

In order of decreasing average speed: Niles Canyon Rd > Mines Rd > Mt Hamilton Rd > San Antonio Valley Rd > Calaveras Rd.

My bet would be on the first half of the Mt Hamilton run from Niles Canyon to Mines, as it offers the most fun for most drivers, plus you don't have to worry about falling off the side of the mountain For the more adventurous, the second half of the run from San Antonio Valley to Mt Hamilton will be a blast.
