Question Gov't state job interviews?

I have an interview coming up for an IT position at a state Prison. This is my first state job interview. Do they conduct their interviews any differently?

I interviewed for a state job years back and they had a panel of 4 persons. Don't be surprise if they record your interview. I'm sure you had to take a test to qualify for the position you're interviewing for. They will also grade you on the interview and send you a letter. Goodluck.

Make sure you like the references you give them, or more importantly, that your references like you. I have heard that they will contact all of them in most cases - that is assuming they like you and your interview goes well. My friend applied for a gov't job and sure enough they called me, and everyone else supposedly.

If they're similar to the Fed Jobs, and you got to the interview phase. Simple, reference is completely correct and up to date, as that's what got you to the next level. They will ask questions, based normally on multiple things, such as the resume info, on your knowledged based on the postion you are attempting to acquire, will call the references - as mentioned above - make sure they will support you in all ways, they normally will put in a question which is a: what if situation, what would you do...and that question is a seller's question, as I call it. Think first, then answer. Relax and sell yourself, you'll do fine. And good luck! Where I work we usually hire 10-12 new people every 3-4 months, but we are Federal. My thing is (do you own a Z...lol) One new hire will be joining us on the Monterey/Pebble Beach Z/G and Friends run on Sept 19th. She bought a 350Z "Black", nice car. After that she'll be probably be on multiple Z runs then, said she is really interested in getting to know the Z community. I'm sure she'll do good at her job.

Yeah, the interviews are a little different. First they pull out the white gloves, and make sure you're not hiding anything. After that, Bubba will give you a good rub down to delouse you. If you're found to be contraband and lice free, you might just get a second interview.

wow... i dont know what interviews you are going to...

but yes depending on the type of job they will do a background check as well and lots of different interviews..
sometimes they will do 1 for knowledge / 1 for disposition / 1 w/ manager 1 w/team and 1 w/ overall manager.

this is very dependent on what type of job it really is..

It'll be a panel interview, one person whom works within the prison, and the other an active citizen for the prison. There may be more people, but usually there are two. Just make sure you know everything about the place you're applying for: their goals, how to achieve their goals, rank structure, etc. Also know and study your application. Best of luck!

I agree with everyone else on the interview section. When I applied at SJPD, the panel interview consisted of a panel of four. Be prepared to answer your questions carefully, and make sure you know what you are talking about. Also, be confident about yourself. They don't like applicant that are wishy washy. That's not what they would like to see. Then the last portion was the lie detector and background check. Good luck with your interview.....

Many state jobs use a committee. Yes, a very good idea to contact your references before they do. I thought they had a hiring freeze at this time.
I recently retired from the CSU...just in time!
