Hi,
I replaced my oem brakes with rotoras bbk (around 6k miles on it). The rotors are warped because the car vibrates when I stop around 45mph+. You guys have any suggestions or know any reliable shops around san jose that can turn my rotors without taking it off. Thanks
The on-car lathe is an expensive process. Just take the car to a wheel shop if you don't have the tools/ability to remove the rotors. Is it the fronts or the rears? If it's the rears, you can get new rotors for about $75 or less.
Did you recently get new pads? Poor bed-in and sporadic pad-to-rotor transfer can feel like warped rotors. Rotor warping is a lot less common than it used to be.
No, I didn't get new pads. But you can tell that they are warped because there are high and low spots on the rotor surface when rotating the wheel.
If you can see high and low spots, that's likely uneven pad deposits. A warped rotor would not show visible high and low spots. Try some hard braking, or get/borrow an aggressive pad to swap in and clean them off. Do you have a cheapo micrometer that you can measure the rotor thickness at various places on the rotor?
Alternatively, you can use this stand and micrometer set against the rotor while you turn it to see how out-of-round it is.
^Your right, the rotors are not warped. I tried hard braking and that didn't fix the problem. I guess I'll try swapping the brake pads and see if that'll work.
How long did it take for the vibration to go away?
I'm getting brake pads replaced on monday, so I hope that will solve the problem *fingers crossed*
.
The car had sat for several weeks. I went for a drive and had the problem. The car sat for a few more weeks and went for another drive and I didn't notice it anymore. The previous drive I went on before I had the problem was a VERY spirited drive on a twisty up and down hill road for about 10 miles.
I've only put about 1,500 miles on the car since Jan. of '08.
I'll try to take it out for a drive tomorow and see if it's still gone. My car sits for really long periods of time without driving it, so dunno if that had anything to do with it. Maybe my rotors had more rust on certain areas than in other parts of the rotor and loaded up the pads weird or something or had a screwed up section on the rotor from rust. I thought maybe the tires had a small flat spot from sitting in one spot so long but that should have gone away once the tires heated up and it didn't.
My shocks probablly died a while ago, that may have something to do with the issues I had too.
