Default Air bag question

Hey Nor-Cal! I'm back from Germany and so happy to be in my Z again... Its one of the few things I really missed. Well when I was in Germany I not only ended up sending my husband to Afghanistan but I ended up pregnant. YEAH right? Mostly... EXCEPT...

Baby seat in the Z? I really refuse to get rid of my Z! I would rather die... (I'm sure most of you understand that)

So to be able to put a baby seat in a 2 seat car I have to get the airbags turned off on the right side... Nissan is refusing to do it, and I understand why.

Anyone else have this problem? If it really can't be done I donno what i'm going to do.

Putting a baby in the front seat of a Z? I dunno...

+1 on getting a honda commuter or something in addition to your Z. Two cars are necessary now.

PS... meet this Friday if you're down sign up. https://my350z.com/forum/northern-ca...ular-meet.html

I think the Z has a function that detects baby seats and will automatically turn off the airbag. it happened to me when my cousin sat in my car. i guess cause there was weight but not enough weight to trigger the airbag?

oh found it:

2003 - 2006 350Zs do not have a system to disable passenger airbags, although an on/off switch is supposedly available. It sounds like '350ZCatfish' may have done it as described in a prior post.

From the owners manual: Your vehicle is equipped with a supplemental front impact air bag system for the front passenger. Therefore, children 12 or under should not ride in this vehicle without installing an air bag ON/OFF switch.

Letting a child ride in a <=2006 Z is a judgement call. If you do, they should be in a child seat or booster seat, properly belted and anchored, with the seat pushed all the way back. If they are properly restrained with the seat all they way back, the front airbag probably wont even touch them when fully inflated (unless the cabin collapses from a severe impact). Side airbags are a differant story. For starters, kids (and adults) should sit up straight and not lean against the door.

2007+ 350Zs include a system to automatically disable the passenger airbags.

From the owners manual: The front passenger air bag is designed to automatically turn OFF when the vehicle is operated under some conditions...The front passenger air bag status light is located on the overhead console.

Occupant Classification System (OCS) NHS000A1
The occupant classification system identifies different size occupants, out of position occupants, and detects if child seat is present in the front passenger seat. The occupant classification system receives inputs from the occupant classification sensor (located inside the passenger seat cushion assembly) and belt tension sensor (part of the passenger front seat belt assembly and located at the belt anchor location). Depending on classification of passenger, the occupant classification system sends a signal to the diagnosis sensor unit. The diagnosis sensor unit uses this signal to determine full, partial, or non deployment of passenger front air bag in the event of a collision. Depending on the signal received, the diagnosis sensor unit can disable the passenger front air bag completely.

So hopefully yours is 2007+ if not its a great excuse to go HR

LOL Thanks 08Silver! I do have an 07! I'm going to borrow a baby seat and a few potatoes and test this out! I do plan to buy another POS car but I can't until my husband get home from Afghanistan and thats like 4 months after the baby gets here.
