Default Driving down to Socal

I am thinking of driving down to San Diego tomorrow, but heard there might be some snow on the grapevine on the I-5. I have never driven in the snow in my Z and was wondering what you guys recommend. Im assuming it wont be much snow if at all, but you never know on the grapevine. Im leaving from Davis, ca so alternative routes or other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What do you have for tires? All Seasons make all the difference in snow.

There is this option. Take the 5 south to the 152 west through Hollister, then take the 101 south down. Kinda out of the way but you avoid snow.

I dunno how bad the snow is going to be, but, seems once in the Grapevine, you're pretty much stuck.

Below link is just a possible alternative. Basically, avoid west side and mountains....hopefully.

i dive to santa barbara a lot and i take the 5 to 41 to 46 to 101. there's some nice scenery that way too. personally, i'd take my chances on the 5 though. odds are it won't even take too much longer if you do run into weather issues.

My personal experience driving through 101 to avoid the Grapevine during a storm was no good. I drove during a storm and driving on 101 through santa barbara was like driving through a sand blaster... I sold my Camaro shortly after. Not sure how much you care about your Z, but yeah, never again for me... Its cheaper to rent a car IMO and then you dont have to care what happens to it in the snow or sand storm

It depends on how much snow there is. Usually if it's just a little they have the trucks moving the snow off the freeway all the time and it's fine. Best thing to do is check the weather condition and road updates before you leave.

I take 101 and 5 all the time and my car still looks like new, it is all about current conditions and the time you go.

I usually keep my Android running google traffic and make decisions based on that. If I get to 41 and the grapevine is still open, I'll stay on it. Crossing over needlessly is a big waste of time otherwise.

WARNING: 41/46 has CHP most of the time and they hand out tickets like nowhere else. Be especially careful near the passing lanes.
