Default ECU reflash question

how much does a reflash cost approximately?

will it be worth the money if i just have all of the bolt-ons?

which one do you guys recommend??

i was thinking about the reflash after i get all of my bolt-ons done, and the plenum spacer, which is very very near. I'm just wondering if it will be worth the money with a N/A 350z? Vakamon was telling me it was about $700, but i just wanna check around to see if that's what it costs, or if that's a good deal. thanks...

yeah i think 500-700 is about what you are going to pay. I would look into technosquare, i think they are the people that do it. I personally would not get it reflashed for just that. If you were going to pay $700 for a reflash, i would just buy a utec so if you go FI later on you already have it

i figured someone was gonna flame on you...but for a fellow local guy...ecu reflashes work wonders...i personally dont have on yet, but i did have a suby. and i reflashed the wrx with the cobb accessport (not available for the Z yet or ever). i dont know the maps that technosquare has but i suggest doin your other mods first, the usual bolt ons. then look into the reflash. it unlocks much needed power. utec is a good tool, but its a piggyback ems. the maps you tune on will start to float, so a constant watch on your a/f maps are necessary.

for my suby i used the accessport for a short time b4 switchin over to utec...the system is user friendly, and can yield much better gains when compared to a reflash. some reflash systems like accesport are on the more conservative side, so you dont blow your motor to hell.(comforting feeling as well)
hope this helps

It's not the same for a Z as it is for a Subie... reflashes (IMO) are just a band-aid attempt at a tune. Only way to go is UTEC or F-CON for the Z's. Especially for the cost of a Z flash.

true that...piggyback make way better numbers than a reflash.

I got the technosquare reflash from vakamon. dont remember how much it costed me but i thought it was worth it. though if u plan to stay na and get cams and such u would probably want something more than just a reflash.

I was just told that a reflash actually does more than tune the a/f. It also improves your accelleration, idle, can disable traction control(for base models), and some other things that hinders the performance from the stock ECU. I didn't realize that this was a commonly asked question, and i haven't thought about reflashing until i was recently told by vakamon. I researched the reflash, and i couldn't really find too much information on what it does, just more on how much it costs. Just in case anyone gets pissed off on always seeing this question, and quotes back something negative.

Reflashes are at least $500 (I don't remember exactly)... not worth the money. Base models don't even have TC. Reflashes tune the A/F and timing, also eliminating the speed limiter and I believe you can raise the rev limit. It's nowhere near as tunable as, let's say, an Evo's stock ECU which can be used to tune 600awhp 35R Evo's with no problem.

It is so worth it to shell out a few more bucks for the UTEC.

Here is my cut on it. For me I like some of the features: removing the limiter, bumping the revs, and adjusting the timing. For the level of mods you have, you realy dont need any of the injector maping or some of the other bells and whistles.

There are alot of other tuning options out there for you. Not quite to the F-CON or even UTEC levels.. Check out the Osiris from UPREV, it gives you alot of tuning options and you can reflash all you want.

EDIT:

Check arround on the prices of the reflash if you want to go that route. Dont go to Vaka they suck *** and over priced. You can send it directly to Technosquare or AAM for hundreds less.

that looks pretty good... I'm a little conserned when it says," your vehicle must have cruise control," because my base model doesn't. That electronic throttle control was one of the things i wanted to tweek out on. But i'm going to email them to see if it'll work with my base, or if there's a way to substitute the need of the cruise control buttons. thanks a lot for this info... VERY USEFUL...

Yeah its for the map switching feature of the software. It tells the ECU to look for inputs from the cruise control in certain patterns to switch maps.
