Default Blow Off Valve

I really like the "PSSSHHT!" sound that the BOV makes but a while ago someone told me that it would be tacky if I install the BOV without a turbo to go with it. I'm happy with the speed of my Z and I feel alittle unconfortable paying over 10 grand on turbo just to hear a cool sound. Do you guys think it would be tacky?

if you attach your blow-off valve to your time space continuum. you should be ok.

IMO it would. I've had a few turbo cars in the past (civic, celi, evo, wrx). The first turbo I had was in my civic. Yes I did buy the turbo for the bov. After a few days I got tired of it and decided to actually learn about what I bought. From there....well I did motor work and increased the boost.

IMO I would feel dumb if another turbo car heard a fake bov coming from my car and pointed and laughed.

Save the money or you can always look into buying a used kit which is 1/2 the price.

Yes it will be tacky. Please dont. Your not paying ten grand for the sound, your paying for the adrenaline rush that youll get every time you step on the gas. I forget about the amount of money i spent on my car every time i give a little gas.

sound of a car spooling up...sucking leaves off the ground, that or the whine of a supercharger, greatest sounds ever...
as far as running a BOV on a N/A car (speaking in terms of real BOVs), i dont think its possible b/c force powered cars create the pressure to open up the valve as the air goes back wards (compressor surge). boost gods correct me if im wrong

It's funny how polite people are to girls. If a guy had asked the same questioned he'd get flamed from coast to coast.

on the politeness....yeah a guy would have gotten kicked off the board all together. I don't have the BOV but the HKS racing bypass valve on the supercharger setup does the same thing...it gives a psssst sound at highway speeds letting off pressure, when boosted and pressure is let off...is gives the pshhhhhh sound also. But as the guys say...not a good idea and that was being polite as possible.

Ummm yeah you wont hear the psssst with out a turbo.

Technicaly speaking the Pssssst sound is the PRESSURE releasing from the BOV. A normal NA car is NEVER at pressure. The BOV is triggered by the differing pressure from the back of the throttle body to the front. Once the plate closes, a vaccum is created by the pistons sucking out the last bit of air. The Turbo's still produce the pressure. The sudden vaccum triggers a valve in the BOV and opens the valve until all the excess pressure is released.

So in short, no FI = no cool Psssst sound. Well unless you go the ricer way via ebay.
