Default Living HI rant

Anyone else tired of getting gouged on shipping? On this forum alone I've been requested by a member to give an additional amount of money to ship a part, when I received it the shipping cost was on the tag... For less than the additional I sent to ship to Hawaii. So I paid the cost of the part plus shipping cost to mainland plus extra to HI. Total shipping cost was less than the extra I paid to HI

Looking to get a new bumper. Contacted 2 vendors in the same state and one wants a $100 more than the other.... Says this is due to me being in HI...

Not to mention almost every website charges additional based on ups or fedex prices, as if they never heard of USPS.

I know shipping here costs more, but WTF is up w/ treating us like we've never dealt w/ honest people before and know what **** really costs? Is no one else frustrated/pissed? We should make a "do not deal with" list for shipping price rapists! Anyone w/ any experience?

Sorry to say...but if you didnt grow up here....then, unfortunately you are going to have to get used to it. Its what we all have been dealing with for a long time, in trying to get parts in.

If you look at a lot of the past threads about group buys and trying to get better deals from companies on the mainland...this is usually the "sore" point in the deals.

It really doesnt matter on how good the deal is at the time...the shipping kind of kills any savings. USPS would be the cheapest way...but then there is no real tracking system on that. UPS is not too bad...but some have had really crappy service from them playing kick ball with it. FedEx is pretty decent....but expensive as hell. So...yup..pick your poison.

Unfortunately there really is no other way. If dealing with another forum member...have them e-mail you the receipt of the shipping costs before you agree to pay more. Most in the past have been kind enough to do so.

Sorry to hear...but yeah....its the same story for all of us living in Hawaii. Take the bad with the good though. Things could be worse. Edit....trying to be upbeat and positive here.

Yup shipping rape..............for larger parts it may be worth your while to deal with a freight forwarder. They may be able to bundle your package with others and save some $$$.

Well said XLR8SN. OP, you'll get used to it...sadly most of us are already immune to the extra shipping costs.

Oh trust me I'm used to it, been living here my entire life. Got my coilovers, body kit, hood, wheels, tires, audio equipment, exhaust, intake, plenum spacer, etc. all online. I really don't mind paying extra (the cost of living in "paradise"). Its just that some vendors or just regular sellers seem to think we'll just bend over and pay way more than the actual cost of shipping... like they're inflating their profit margins on BS shipping charges as if they think we don't know what **** really costs.
