I need to find a good quality digital camera that is both affordable and performs well. My girlfriend was gonna get me the x360 but since it is next to impossible to get I decided on a digital camera. I am looking for a camera that takes good pics on low light conditions and has more features than just point and click. So far I am leaning on the Canon PowerShot S2 IS. So any any of you chaps have any ideas please post your picks for camera's. I don't want to pick something that's costs around $1000 but somewhere around $500 or less that takes awesome pics.....Please help I only have a few weeks to decide on something....

If you are looking for a simple point and shoot I would recommend any Canon.
If you are looking to control the f-stop, shutter timing, etc... then tell your gf to get you a gift certificate for the first $500 and pay for a good SLR yourself. IMO, your normal point and shoot cameras SUCK if you are looking to shoot manually.

For low light shots you'll need a tripod.
Pretty much any camera you get will have a shutter time priority option to help out with good night pics as well.
Are you looking for a certain MegaPixel? Do you have any other preferences??

You just described the Fuji F10. This camera is unique in the digital point and shoot world. It has a larger CCD so the pixels have a larger pitch - this means the camera works better in low light conditions than any other small digital point and shoot at any price. I just picked one up on the recommendatioon of a friend who is a professional photographer and Im shocked at how good this stupid little camera is. You can shoot indoors in low light without flash and without a tripod and get well lit low noise pictures. Be careful though - this is the only Fuji to use this larger CCD. Oh yeah, NO Canon, Nikon or Olympus point and shoot will even come close to this cameras low light / indoor performance. They all use small CCDs with smaller pixels and end up yielding noisy / blurry shots in low light conditions. When it comes to digicams more pixels does not mean better. The fuji has 6 and that's plenty. In fact, in the point and shoot world more pixels means even smaller pixels resulting in poorer low light performance and clipping in high light conditions.
To put all of this in context my main camera is a digital SLR and this is the first point and shoot that actually impresses me. And you can pick it up at your local Target for $350.

Have a look at this web site. The guys reviews are spot-on accurate. Look for his full reviews and you'll find details on how well they do in low light situations - digital cameras can change the gain on their sensors. You're looking for a camera with good 800 and 1600 ASA response.
