DSLR > point and shoot any day.

that and you can get the D50 w/ lens for less than 679

DSLRs have better optical sensors to allow better pictures, along with much better features and adjustability.

I have a D50 and LOVE it.

So its much better than the sony due to it having DSLR? Canon is 6.0 Megapixels, while the Sony is 7.2!

I believe you mean Nikon D50. Not a bad entry level DSLR.

I think 4 megapixels is enough for most use. Send someone a few 4 megapixel pictures and see how much they like you. Occassionally you see someone post a 3000 x 2000 picture here so that we can see portions of it on our 1024 x 768 or a bit better screens.

Have a look at www.kenrockwell.com he's got a good article about how camera bodies matter less than the lens. I've always bought the camera to match the best flash system as I argue photography is all about light and the flash helps you control it a bunch. I recently bought a Nikon D70S and have spent the last five months waiting for the matching 18-200mm VR lens. Rockwell says that you ought to buy quality glass (and I add flash gear) and a cheaper body as you'll be selling/trading in your body every few years but keeping the same lens and flash system. Makes sense to me.

Digital Single Lens Reflex - like 35mm film with detachable lens and no preview off the rear monitor (Olympus's new one excepted).

well, the optics in the DSLRs are better than point and shoot, so while it may only be 6mp, you'll never NEED that full 6mp as the pictures at that size are HUGE!

After 4mp, as was said before, it becomes nothing but a massive picture, quality/clarity doesn't improve, except when going from a point and shoot to a DSLR.

Plus with the D50 you can get the different lenses and do all sorts of cool stuff. I wanted something slim too, but with the features of the D50 I don't mind lugging it around.

Just picked it up, waiting on the battery to charge.

Got a 1GB card, wish I could snap some pics of the ZR!

Yep, and go figure, I put my ZR in storage, put the Volks in the closet. Oh well, I will try and get some High Res shots in March!

Any camera experts have any tips or pointers? Any good lenses, accessories, ect? I am in need of a good camera bag.

I am reading the thick manual,
