If you need it, you're not good enough, and you won't improve your skills as a photographer. Plenty of professional photographers have been doing without such "easy bake oven" programs, and it shows in their work. I rarely give props anymore to photos because I can't often tell how much of the quality is due to the photographer's eye, and how much to a software program.
Well if you want to be a purist, how about just make a painting of the car. Better yet, how about get a chisel and make an image on a cave. IMO talent + best tools & technology combined give the best outcome regardless of what medium you are dealing with.

Great, helpful OP. Technology in photography is changing like anything else and new artforms will always emerge. I remember when using a zoom lens was considered cheating because you didn't have to work so much to get the right composition. Now, it wouldn't occur to anyone to think that. This thread is going to inspire some Z owners to get even more joy from their car.

CANNON 50MM F1.8 on the way; will take a bunch of pics let you know how it turns out, however I've been wanting to see a pic using a macro lens, my next buy is cannon 100mm f2.8 true macro lens, the kit lens that comes with the xti 18-55 f3.5-5.6 wideangle is pretty good. just been working to pay for this camera, and the front bumper that got painted and didn't match at all, anyways as soon as the bumper gets put on I will take pictures of both 50mm 1.8 and 17-55mm 3.5.

You will not be disappointed with the IQ (Image Quality) of the 50mm 1.8. You will be amazed at photos with aperture wide open... especially compared with the kit lens. I can only imagine having the 50 1.4 or 1.2L and seeing what they can do.

If you want a true macro, you ought to try the Sigma 50mm f3.8. It's true 1:1 macro, and will be my next lens. Also comes with hood as other 3rd party lenses. My experience with the 17-70mm Sigma, the IQ and build quality, has me coming away impressed with Sigma. It's also an EX lens, which is Sigma's higher quality pro type lenses, so build quality is top notch. Best off, it's only $269 at B&H. Of course, you also cannot go wrong with the Canon 100mm macro (according to the reviews), but you just pay a steeper price.

those are also nice lenses however I was going for this lense http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation
for macro use so that I can get close enough to my subjects without really being that close, also its a cannon, its a true macro lense which I can also use for close up portraits. I've been itching to go out the shoot, however the weather has kept me inside. 40 degrees out and raining for the past week now.

Yeah, I read the Macro brochure that came with the camera That's the lens I was referring to in my post. That Sigma 50mm is also 1:1. I was just referring to it as a CHEAPER alternative to the Canon, if $$$ is tight, yet doesn't sacrifice build quality or IQ.

You didn't state that "numerous" long exposure shots will generate excessive heat which induces dark noise. Any beginner reading your statement will believe that a ("a" as in singular) long exposure = noise.

Wide angle - that's not wide angle. Here's some wild wide angle distortion.

Nice tips.

Have a look at the Huey by Pantone. I've got one sitting next to my monitor. It does two things. First it calibrates your monitor's colors, contrast, and brightness in a semi-automated method - you are required to attach the thing to the front of your screen and click "go". Secondly it monitors the changes in the lighting in your room compensating (optionally) for changes.

At work we use Spyder's but they run like $250 each - this guy was like $60 IIRC ... I've had it more than a year now.

My favorite is the 70mm long exposure....I love how the traffic on the highway looks while the car is sitting still.

Wow, shot on a six year old Nikon E990- which I remember to be the camera that was the wet dream of digital camera afficianados. $1000 kept it a wet dream for me. I didn't know manufacturers made wide angle lenses for point and shoot cameras.

That Huey is cheap. I'll definitely be picking one up.

Guys, thanks for the compliments/opinions...

How's about a review/opinion of the lens, and some samples of the pictures?
