Canon 40D
http://www.questionphoto.net/documents/40d.pdf
Who's getting one?
My first foray into DSLR was the XTi and got it soon after release. But it seems like I'm going to have to upgrade to the "prosumer" model. Alot of compelling features like LIVE VIEW, which lets you shoot like a point and shoot camera, using the LCD screen as your viewfinder.
BTW, rumours of the stock EF-S 18-55mm now having 4 stop image stabilization like on the newer Canon IS lenses like the 70-300 and 70-200 L. Damn. Ever since I got the 28-135, I am spoiled by IS. I don't think we'll ever see in-body IS by Canon. They'll lose too much on the IS lenses. But what if you put an IS lens on an IS body. Handheld shots in night situations? I can dream.

I'm jumping from my 20D to a 5D at the end of the year.
I have no reason jumping to a new camera with another 1.6 crop. FTL! I'm so sick and tired of this stupid crop. Brought my 24-70 L yesterday at Nisei and I'm so disappointed how a 1.6 crop kills a 24mm. That thing should be wide already.

The EF-S 18-55mm IS is only going to be $199 at amazon!!!
I guess Canon is following Nikon's lead in making an affordable stabilized lens. If you're a newbie to DSLR's, you must try an IS lens, you will hardly have any shots that have unwanted blur.

As fun as this may be, this camera isn't real yet, nor the lens. Not until I see it on the Canon Eos website.
The 40D has been rumored about ever since the 30D was rumored about. No matter what the case, I've had my Rebel XT for a little over 2 years, and it is definitely time for an upgrade. So while I do expect most of the features that are listed in that link, I'll just wait and see.
ctwentytwo, not to burst your bubble about Live View, but it doesn't work just like a point and shoot. It is designed for landscape photographers and still life photographers, and it only works while using Manual focus and certain settings. Read up on the 1DMK3 for more details.

My Rebel XT recently stopped working (damn error 99 code) so I may be upgrading to something like this in the very near future as well. But given my recent problems with the canon I may look into getting a Nikon.

For those waiting on the next Canon FF camera, it should be a good one especially with the upcoming sRAW mode that will allow the use of EF-S lenses. ETA for the 5D replacement, first quarter of 08.

My decision's based on the frame pretty much. No need to use a 16-35 L for wide shots.

Okay, now we're talking! I'll probably go for it around Christmas, after the first wave of people jump on this one. Damn, this is going to be an awesome cam.
Holy cow, I just saw that new Wireless Grip attachment. That is going to be killer too!
