Very important to remember...you wont get stomped if you get a D40 or D40x when you go to resell it.

Just upgraded to the D300. An amazing tool. The low light sensativity, and sharpness is amazing. I know the Canon guys have had this type of stuff for years, but its a first for the Nikon crowd. I rarely, if ever...have to use flash, even indoors, and poor lighting situations.

But that is a function of your lens, though. Using a slow shutter speed with any camera to make up for a not-so-ideal minimum aperture available on the lens will never result in clean, jitter-free, handheld indoor shots or good lighting in a dimly-lit outdoor scene.

He was referring to ISO performance. My original post was marveling at the praise that Popular Photo was giving the D300. Clean images at ISO 3200+... using hand holdable shutter speeds.

man i'm having trouble deciding between purchasing a new lens or the d300 body. my d200 is still actually fairly new.. so i don't i should even though the ISO performance is that insane. but i need to purchase a new lens for this upcoming shoot and more shoots to come. going to shoot a dance competition at the end of the month.

blah. so it's either the new nikkor 24-70 or the d300. but most likely the lens. but its not in stock!

If I had a D200, I would probably keep it.
Check out this guy's reviews..he has a bunch of ISO comparos between different cameras. It's not written in nerdy photog speak...hha!

I find it more funny that people are willing to spend $27-36K on the car, and put $700 wheels on.

Sharif, hows about sharing some ISO 3200-6400 shots in low light situations?

Looks very interesting, but I can't imagine moving from Canon at this point. Lenses are just way to expensive for that (to me anyway).

Yeah, I can't imagine anyone ever switching from Canon to Nikon, or vice versa, if they already have an investment in glass.

How's your "new" exhaust holding up.

Ok for the record, I am not that great of a photographer, and I just snapped this shot the first day I got the camera. I havent played with any of the settings. This is exactly how the pic looked from the camera..no post processing, just resized.

Sandy was kind enough to be the model. Forgive the background.......I just wanted to see what the cam would do at ISO 2000, and handheld at 1/60 sec. The only light in this shot was from a very small lamp to the right of Sandy....pointed towards the ceiling.
