Pentax K10D (built in image stablization, can use any Pentax K mount lens ever made)
kit lens (18-55)

Canon A530

2x 2GB SD cards
1 x 1GB
2x 512MB.

micro sized tripod (works on table tops, car hoods, that sort of thing)

Once I get to my parents (6 hours away up in BC) I'll get my hands on the glass I had for my K1000.

All Pentax:

28mm
50mm
200mm

all manual focus, but autofocus isn't really all it is cracked up to be.

On my want list:

IR Remote
2 4 GB SD cards.
Sigma 50-500 lens (for birding).

ah..if you ask this question before then my answer would be different. I used Canon ONLY before the release of D3 for my wedding work. Since the release of D3, it is greatly helpful in low light condition; hence, i change to Nikon gear for all of my wedding work. Ofcourse i don't use both Canon/Nikon at the same time when i'm out making money. Can't use 2 different systems since it will be more work for post-process.

I still keep Canon for enjoyment such as birding since 500/600IS from Canon still cheaper than Nikon. I refuse to pay the premium for Nikon 500VR. Is that answer your curiousity?

Definitely some great gear and talent here. We all have to start somewhere and I was in your shoes until about a year ago when i picked up a 20D. For the longest time all i had was a Nikon EL from 1972 and a 35mm lens. Got some nice shots though.

I've had this camera for a while now and never got too serious. Mainly because my PS skills really suck. I just take pictures of my guns, but with a kid on the way, time to setup my game.

can't use EF-S on your 5D. BUT 5D is really nice. You can get a used one around $1500 now. Full frame baby.

5D = Lesbians?

So, the question is..40D with a new lens, or 5D with current lens selection...

sell all of your lens and get this combo: 5D + 24-105L. You will see the different.
