Talking Best first camera?

I've decided I would like to get into photography a bit, besides just taking random shots. So, what would be the best camera for me to start out with, and get the hang of things?

My budget is only around $150-$200, so I'm not looking for anything that fancy just yet.

i highly doubt you can find anything in the DSLR world that could be in your budget. And if it's point and shoot, you're not going to get the effects that you can with a DSLR.

small digital camera is all you're gonna get for that amount. save, and bump your budget to about $1500+ and then you'll be more capable of getting a nice camera. $150-$200 isn't gonna get you anything that you can get "practice" with. Not the kinda practice you'd need for a DSLR.

I was afraid you guys were gonna say that. I really don't have that kinda money to work with, and probably won't for quite awhile(just graduated HS). I don't have any options?

I just got a D40 and, with the kit lens, is good for most situations I've encountered (I've only had it for ~4 days). I bought mine on eGay for $420 shipped to me. That's probably the cheapest you're going to find for DSLR.

Crap. I guess I'll just go with a point and shoot for now.

Are there any good guides or anything for that type of camera?

What are some you guys suggest? (Budget: $200)

All the Canon Powershots have the same processor. Go that route.

Fuji camera's are excellent, and offer an excellent digital ISO.

I'm in the same boat as you and have found this camera http://www.dpreview.com/news/0707/07...asonicfz18.asp for under $300. It's said to be a cheap alternative to having an slr.

I'm still looking into purchasing this camera... go check it out at Fry's, the picture seems to be awesome.

If you're still interested in an SLR camera, shoot me a PM. I am selling my D40 with kit lens and some accessories. Includes everything you need to start off in the world of dSLR photography except a tripod
