Beginning phtography camera reccomendation?
The wife is taking beginning photography and hopefully going to use the camera for personal use as well so I was wondering what's a good camera to start with cost about $250 and under.
We went to Fry's and she has her heart set on this one http://www.dpreview.com/news/0707/07...asonicfz18.asp but it's a tad bit over the price we are willing to spend. The pictures for the Panasonic is very sharp and nice I suppose but was wondering if there are any other good reccomendations for her photography class.
Mind you she will probably use this camera even after the class so we are not looking to spend cheap on any crappy camera either..
Thanks in advance!

the only thing you will be able to get for that price is a point and shoot, no dslr

You can't switch the lens on the camera you linked.
pick up a used Canon 10D and practice with that... or better yet a used Nikon D40

That camera you linked has very limited apeture settings, and as stated above you will not be able to interchange lenses, which to me is a huge crutch if you want to make some nice images.
If your just starting out, IMHO, get the Canon S5 IS. It will do anything a budding photographer would want to do, and is just above your price range. Also, again, IMHO, stay with the one of the two major camera makers - Canon or Nikon. They're the best for a reason. You also might want to check out the latest issue of Consumer Reports. They rate many cameras in this issue from budget to advanced DSLRs. hey also give some basic advice for the novice.
Look here for the S5 IS:
