Default Digital Camera

Hey guys, I'm currently shopping for a digital camera. I was wondering if you guys could give me some recommendations. I'm looking to spend around $300. So far after doing a little bit of research the powershot seems to be pretty popular and great for its price.

Thanks ahead of time.

Canons are nice and have excellent cheap optics. I have a Fuji Film point and shoot, and it's great.

Recommendation: Bump up your price range, you won't regret it; DSLR Nikon D40X, non DSLR Canon G9.

I have owned several SLR/DSLR as well as compact Digital camera's, I have fournd that the afore mentioned cameras are perfect for the majority of situations the average "Joe" finds him/herself in.

Personally I'm looking for more of a compact camera. But I do want one that does take really good pictures and all. After doing more research The Canon SD870 IS is extremely popular... But yea. Sorry for not mentioning that fact earlier.

The G9 is a good compromise between size and quality, but if you really need compact, then yeah... SD870.

My Opinion, the Canon S5-IS. An extremely versatile piece of equipment.

The D40x is several hundred more than his budget. The D40 is only about $100 over if you look at the right places.
