Just ordered some stuff from Amazon since B&H were out of stock with the 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS so I bundled everything through Amazon.

Manfrotto 055XDB Black Tripod Kit with 322RC2 Grip Action Ball Quick
Release Head & Tripod Case

Canon EF-S 55-250mm F/4.0-5.6 IS

HOYA 58CIR 58mm Circular Polarized Filter

Canon RC1 wireless remote trigger

and a reverse adapter for my 50mm f/1.8 to shoot some Macros. I will most likely be picking up a set of Kenko tubes for the fifty in a couple weeks (didn't do my research before buying the adapter ) I am also saving up for my Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 Fisheye and some lighting equipment. AHHHHH what have I gotten myself into?!?!?!?!

Starting to learn OCF and going through the strobist boot camp right now. I didnt want to go crazy on the OCF setup since I was just learning so I picked up 2 impact light stands, 2 x Yongnuo YN-460 II's, 1 x YN-467 TTL, RF-602 trigger, roscogel kit and also picked up my new Canon 70-200 f/4L IS with B+W CPL and opteka tripod ring mount. I'm going to be also getting 2 Westcott umbrellas to practice more with the OCF's. Here's a pic with the 460 II and 467 side by side and a shot just practicing on my new DC's and the last 2 are shots using the new 70-200mm hand held to try out the IS.

I might be picking up a 5D Mk II as well with the 24-70mm F2.8 and 70-200mm F2.8 IS. It's a hard decision but I really need the resolution for my fashion work. What do you think of the 5D Mk II so far? I'm using a D700 right now with the same lens essentially. I just don't know what else to do since for all we know Nikon might just pull another 'S' and add video to make a D700s instead of a D700x which is more what I need.

fashion work then D3x is your choice (if money is not an issue). I wait for awhile but Nikon not release a FF body with 1080p video; hence the switching.

So far 5d mk ii work pretty good as they should be. Keep in mind, i only use it for video. I still use D3 for still photography. ISO sensitive of 5d mk II can't beat D3 in low light. So for your case, stay with Nikon and either get D3x if you want to get all the pixel or wait for the new D700 replacement.

^ Well of course the D3X is KING right now I wish I could afford it. I notice a lot of high-profile fashion photographers shoots with the 1DS MkIII or the 5D MkII which I think is due to high resolution (don't know why else). I do prefer the much better build quality of the D700, AF, and Nikons ergonomics over the 5D MkII. My other concern is walking into a high-profile client's studio and face all the Canon equipments and NOT being familiar with them! I can't image how bad it would be if I'm clumsy with the Canon bodies on an important shoot.

I don't know why Nikon is always playing catch up - especially in your case with not releasing the D3S with 1080p. If they play the S card with the d700 I'm going to go Canon for good.

Btw, what bodies are you using now? How do you like the 5D MkII's build coming from Nikon? Sorry for all the questions - I read this stuff on the forums but mostly people are just fanboys who haven't used both brands before.

Blah, I just decided to stay with Nikon. I can't ever get use to the 5D Mk II's feel, just doesn't seem right and a bit too much plastic for me I decided to just bite the bullet and pick up a 24-70mm f2.8 Nikkor....glad this thing is expensive >.< Hope it sings like angels on top of mount olympus and then some for the price I'm paying! But it's my favorite focal length and I'm sure it'll last me for years to come

come from pro body (1ds mk III, D3, D3s), i don't like the feel of 5k mk II at all. The sound of the shutter also kinda weird BUT they do a beautiful job at video so i can't complain about it.

24-70 is the best lens from nikon. Worth every cents. Congrat on your new toy. I still use D3 for my still photography. Try out the D3s but i don't have much manual control on video part vs 5d mk II so i sold it. Tried out D3x for 4 weeks. It is sweet but too slow for my wildlife stuff so sold it.

Great read guys^. I stated off with a Nikon D50 (which I will agree In the end of the day I feel Nikon's ergonomics are superior), went to an XTI (needed something light for rig shots) and now that I'm looking for a "pro" level camera am CONSIDERING moving back to Nikon......

Ah, I'm jealous you had a D3x but I know it's a bit slower for you. With all that speed from bird photography it's understandable why you want the fastest possibly equipments. I can only hope for the best when the D700 replacement comes out! Maybe you can sell the 5DMKII then

I also went Pro with Nikon. I used an XTi, XSi, then T1i but I couldn't bring myself to liking the Canon's feel - just seems so cheap and plastic. For the same price, Nikon offers a much better build body. If you ever compare the D300s with the 7D, you'll see a huge build quality difference.

One reason why I can't stay away from Nikon:

Nice...now to contemplate 1d mark III/5D MARK II vs D700. I'm at a decent spot where I don't have too much gear to switch...

If you're interested I can write a 5D Mk II vs D700 article for my blog. I was complemplating for weeks on switching to the 5D Mk II but after a lot of research and working with both cameras, I decided to stay with Nikon. Not so say that the 5D Mk II isn't a fabulous camera, but there are limitations of which I cannot live with. I really don't think there is a "perfect" camera, and we always compromise. We just need to go for the one that fits our style best.

good stuff Alvin..... I will be posting some EPIC rig gear next week. My kit is finally complete. The aluminum was available in only one particular size... at least how mine was priced. I have 24' of aluminum pole (cut into 6 pieces-4' each). Yes, overkill and "extra pole."

Very true. I'd be interested in a first hand blog.

I was under the assumption that the more separations in the pole the more likely it will have vibrations.

BTW nice car I always enjoy your posts on prime.
