With that budget, if you want TTL, Nikon SB600, ~ $220

If you want to learn manual control, Vivitar 285 can be found for under $100

You need wireless triggers which can range from anywhere to $40 to $1500. Check out the Yongnuo CTR-301's. They have got pretty good reviews.

My D300 doesnt require triggers, my buddies D80 doesnt, the D90 doesnt. Idk if my D50 did or not. Not too sure about the D60.

Be sure to check out the Alienbee's CyberSync setup for the flashes. Its MUCH BETTER than just doing on board triggering. i paid around 145-160 for all if it, its been awhile

The D60 has commander mode, so no wireless triggers are necessary unless you want some extra features that PW offer.

i dont think the d60 has commander mode. if it does where is it located? i just got my sb 600 speedlight and really like the way it works on the camera and i wanna see how it works off of it but cant get it to trigger. i think the d60 needs a seperate commander like the su 800

I thought the D60 added the commander mode but I'm probably wrong.

You're experiencing limitations of the system (range). Bright light (outdoors) limits the range for trigger.

thats why most of us prefer using wireless radio transmitters like cybersync or skyports.
