Default canon 85mm 1.8

I've just got this lens. Love it for the portrait, but for the cars, the focal length is too long

it is mounted w/ 5d and pictures are edited w/ Picasa

This is going to be my next and last lens for a while. It's a great portrait lens, like you said. But I don't think it's too long for automotive work. I've used it a few times to snap shots of my G.

On a 5D, thought that range was the norm for cars as well as portraits. The 50 f/1.4 should do well.

When used properly (like photo 4 above) it's a great focal length IMO. Nice work.

I would find a open area to park the car farther than the background to create bokeh(the background that you are looking for...) and might want to try shooting on evenings and putting the 1.8 to work. Fave shot is the wheels shot.

I've had my 85 for some time now. Just picked up a 5D2 a few months ago. I don't think it's too long for automotive at all.

I prefer to shoot at 200mm for most of my shots.

oooof...I wouldn't go with 1.2....no need unless you really need it to be that fast...extremely hard to focus at the extreme end...the 1.8 and 1.4 are almost identical...especially on a crop sensor

eh? I have no issues focusing @ 1.2. This lens is definitely worth it!
