Default Need help - Canon EOS XSi Digital Camera Kit

Hello all,

I'm planning to buy a dslr camera to practice taking pictures. I want to move from a POS (literally) camera to dslr.

I found an used one with len in good condition for about $500.

This is a good deal? And is it good for a beginner like me? Thank you.

I have an XSI and its an awesome camera, it is great for beginners. I got mine for 400 bucks so I wouldn't say 500 would be a good deal.

Nice choice with the 40D. What lens did you get?

Only 1 lens that came with the camera (28-135mm).

I will probably get a 50mm f/1.8 lens as well. I heard it is a good lens for the money.

The 50 1.8 is a good choice and you're right, it's a great lens for the money. The build and AF are a bit meh but you won't notice if/until you move onto better built lenses like the 50 1.4 or 85 1.8 or even the L's. One of my favorite shots I've taken was with that lens and my old T1i. The DOF is fun to play around with.

Wow, that's a great shot. What setting did you use to capture that image? Did you do photo work to achieve it?

Thanks! Here's the exif:

Camera Canon EOS REBEL T1i
Exposure 0.05 sec (1/20)
Aperture f/2.8
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 100

I did very little to that other than adjust the levels a bit and bump up the contrast and lowering the saturation just a little. That was about a month after I got the camera. You can tell because the ss was 1/20sec haha. Although it was shot on an tripod and he didn't move, I still look back at stupid errors like this and chuckle.

I'm not sure if you know about it or not but I'd register on photographyonthenet. It's the biggest Canon user forum online and it's free and setup like my350. I learned everything so far from that site. It's extremely helpful and there are fellow my350 people on there too including synth, Stu and myself. My username is the same on there as it is on here.
