I like dual tipped exhaust systems. I'm pretty sure this setup with the dual resonators and mufflers, and the split immediately following the downpipe, is what makes it so quiet in comparison to other 3" exhausts.

As far as being loud, that's what the wastegate dump is for. It sounds real mean when the car hits boost.

Are those the HKS universal 3" mufflers? If so, I had them before my APS exhaust and they sounded really good.

Very nice exhaust Craig...Maybe you can get the rest of the bugs worked out in time for the 9th. Like you said, if not just come down and hang out.

Wow, great looking exhaust man.

Hope you get your other issues with your motor sorted out soon. Afterall, what fun is this hobby if you can't drive it and enjoy it. GL!

My car does still smoke a bit. I know that Ryan was telling me it was smoking while under boost before. I'm fairly certain its not the turbo as this is the 3rd turbo that's been in the car, and each has been built with brand new seals. There's also the case of the PCV that's hanging open since it has no intake pipe before the turbo (need to fix this soon). I'm going to keep an ear out if the noise changes after the car heats up.

I think that it's interesting that Jeremy said that Larry's car made the same noise, and interestingly enough his car was smoking and seemed to have blowby issues. I'm wondering if my car has the same issue but I'm hearing its a non-issue? Larry, what came of this?
Since getting my engine rebuilt I have had no issues thus far. I only drove it from Sharif's shop to my house. it only has about 600 no boosted miles. The previous motor that had collapsed piston rings had alot of blowby and was low on compression on that cylinder. My new motor is a noisy one, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it. The compression is good, it's not burning any oil, and the oil pressure is normal.

It sounds like maybe your dealing with some detonation. But that's just a guess with the noise you described.

Very nice exhaust setup! I like it so much I think I might have Intense build me something similar for my G when I get the PowerLab turbo kit.

Is it also 3" before the spilt/Y to dual 3"? I'm thinking about doing 3.5" or 4" before the split.

Thanks, and yeah it's 3" all the way. I have a 3" downpipe so there's no real reason to go bigger for less than a foot before the spit.

Yeah, mine is smoking a whole lot too. I just changed out the oil tonight, having driven it about 400-500 miles since I picked it up. It was kinda low seeing as it has 6 quart capacity.

I ordered a 4-3" reducer and some clamps so I'm waiting on them. Then, I'm going to shoe horn it in around that radiator. I'd rather run a 4" intake pipe and have it custom made but I'd rather get something on there quick for now.

I've been told different things, but yes, there are way too many variables at play currently. As soon as I get my coupler in I'll see how large the difference is. I'm not saying it's the same issue as Jet's, just that it needs to be troubleshooted (sp?) one step at a time.

Exhaust looks good! Are those vibrant resonators as well?

Can't wait to hear clips of it.

Ugh... why were these threads merged? This thread is too long to be useful. Is everything about my car going to be merged into this thread?

I am newb when trying to diagnose engine noises, but I agree with the detonation theory. Also, are you using Arias ED pistons? I heard that they were a little louder as well.

Forgive me if the above was completely off, but that would be the only two suggestions I have.

Craig

BTW, that is by far the nicest looking exhaust that I have ever seen on a Z!

I guess the mods felt you weren't worthy enough to have 2 threads about your car? I hope this isn't a new trend on the forum.
